Victorian Gardens is one of very few apartment complexes of its kind here on the island and it is relatively cheap for what it offers:
Large 1 or 2 bedroom apartments
Washer / Dryer in kitchen Dish Washer
All kitchen appliances are awsome.
Half-court indoor basketball, Gym, and Clubhouse with ball room ($500 per event).
Swimming Pool and Hot Tub.
I may forget few more things to mention.
But is all this enough information to base your moving decision on' I guess it depends on who you are. So here is some more info.
We moved in the summer of 2002 and have lived here for two years now. We really like it here by and large. However, like I said before, this place is relatively cheap and so you know the saying "you get what you pay for." There are many things that get on our nerve.
First off:
The people who manage this place are believed to have never attended a class in business management, professionalism, courtesy, or customer relations... you get the point. They are very unprofessional and rude. You will always find someone complain about management in any apartment complex. You can?t satisfy everyone, right' Well, that?s not the case here. Everyone we know here agrees that this management is unbeliveably rude.
They know that if not you, someone else will occupy the apartment (sad but true).
Before we moved in, we had questions regarding additional security deposits that they were requiring in order to approve us, so we didn?t fail to ask them. But they got quickly impatient and wanted to deny us and get off the phone with us so they could get in touch with a less educated renter. We had no other choice financially for the quality apartments they offered. We had to literally "kiss their ass" for them not to hang up. So we swallowed.
What one will observe with Victorian Gardens is that everything is tailored to the management?s convenience and there is not even half a thought in satisfying the customer. They will not go half-out of their way for absolutely anything. It is all black and white. We give them business while they treat us as animals by the way they speak to us.
We put in for a one year renewal and went to the office to hand in the lease. The property manager didn?t even look our way. She just extended her hand to us while talking to someone else from the office. She never looked our way or spoke to us. Can you believe this'! And it?s not like they are busy or anything. So we didn?t hand her the papers. She turned to us and said: "what'" We said, "we were waiting for your attention." Then all she said was "just give it to me." ... and it?s not like there was a smile on her face or anything. She looked miserable, all of them always do.
Second consideration:
The pool opens only between Memorial Day and Labor day. They hadn?t received clearance from the department of health yet so last summer they closed it up even earlier then labor day. The pool only opens from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. So for those of you who work forget about being able to use the pool during the week.
The apartment we are in is not in bad shape at all. They all are 4 years old. The Italian ceramic tiles chip easily. They are expensive - if they break, maintenance replaces them with lynoleum (plastic).
If you shall live in the first floor, you?ll hear everything your upstairs neighbors will do, even the quietest ones. If you don?t mind the stairs, pay the extra $50 and take the second floor.
Screen dors and windows are cheap. Chances are that after four years now they need replacements or major fixes. So do the washer dryer french doors. But maintenance will not replace a thing - the management wouldn't let them. It also takes them time to come if any repairs are needed. They are short staffed - another maintenance short coming. They are told to sugar coat everything. The maintenance guy is so kind but there is not much in his power to help because he is told what to do from management.
The basketball court is not bad but we?re not talking about wood floor here and it is so dirty that you can see the dust in the air when you start dribbling. I had to even by the net for the basket myself because they wouldn?t replace the one that was tearing appart. Many times the court is locked and there is no guard to open it for you. The tennis court (clay) is never functional. The net is never up. The outdoor basketball court looks like a dump.
Here?s a few good things:
The land scaping crew is good. They keep the area nice and neat. The snow gets cleaned up fairly quickly. Parking is not that bad. Most of the time I can park right in front of my door, if not, few spots away - no trouble.
Like I said the only reason we are here is because you can?t find brand new large apartments like these anywhere else on the island for what we are paying. Yet we just got raised $50 a month for our second year with no betterment of any services. They can get away with it. The market allowes it.
Bottom line:
If you don?t mind being treated like an animal, if you can take care of repairs, and don?t care to use the extra amenities this is the place for you.

Victorian Gardens is burdened by an unreasonable management team. There are numerous outlandish rules imposed that tenants must accept. The options are their way or the highway which is not a comforting atmosphere to live in. It seems that the management makes the 'everyday' tenant's life more difficult while not addressing "problem" tenants. It truly is a poor way to manage a business. I would not recommend living in this complex.
