Good staff, poor construction

Harborside Manor is run by alright people, but the buildings seem cheaply constructed. As other reviews have mentioned, the floors creak almost anywhere you step, to my annoyance and no doubt to the annoyance of the people living below me. The walls are paper-thin; I had a neighbor who would play loud music in the evenings and through the weekend, and the bass came through the walls loud and clear. I lived in a two bedroom unit -- when I moved in, the door frame in my bedroom was warped somehow and my door would not close. The building has a disturbing tendency to creak loudly during windy days. The bedroom windows were painted shut on move-in, though this was remedied. Other than that, everything was pretty good -- the appliances were pretty cheap, but didn't give me any problems with the exception of the dishwasher, which was replaced with a new unit.
There is no assigned parking. I viewed this as a plus, as I never had trouble getting a space close to my building (at worst, I was across the street when I returned late at night). I had some friends who lived in a complex with assigned parking, and parking there as a guest was a real pain. The sidewalks and streets are adequately plowed in the winter.
The people in the office seem competent, especially the manager. If I ever had any problems, I could walk over to the office and if one of the sales people couldn't take care of it, I was always able to speak to the manager, who was able to answer my questions, take care of my problem immediately or, failing that, follow up in a day or two as she got more information. The maintenance people were nice enough and responsive whenever I had a maintenance issue.
I felt safe while I was living there and never had any problems with crime.
The laundry system was nice -- you are given a smart card that can be "refilled" at a machine in the exercise room. While it's kind of a pain that the machine won't accept denominations smaller than $5, the system nice because I don't have to keep a mountain of quarters handy to pay for laundry.
Overall, I would say that if you don't mind the aforementioned physical defects of the place, it is a decent place to live.
