My husband and I lived in Pine Hills South (Tall Oak) from 2005-2009. We were pleased with our apartment (Barclay, upper, one bedroom) and felt as though we got our money's worth.
The good:
1. having a washer and dryer in our unit was hands down the best feature for us, a great convenience that is hard to find anywhere else (especially in a one bedroom).
2. we only had to call maintenace twice in 4 years, and they came promptly and handled our issues to our satisfaction.
3. plenty of parking available and well lighted at night.
4. lots of closet space (for a couple).
5. pet friendly (for a fee).
6. anytime someone entered our apartment we were notified ahead of time if possible, if not, they left a polite note notifying us that they had been inside.
The not so good:
1. outdated cabinets, appliances and bathroom.
2. trouble with car break ins from time to time.
3. the rent, which started out quite fair for Long Island, increased annually. From the time when we first moved in to the time when we moved out, our rent rose by over $200/ month.
All in all, the good outweighed the bad in our opinion. It's still a good value for the money. A great place for a couple just starting out.

The place is nice however Heatherwood are crooks. Fact.
