Think city apt living, not country apt living!!

I've seen this place go down fast! Maintenance use to arrive within 24 hours, now they might arrive within several months. My building has a majority of small children living with their parents, however, my next door neighbor is dealing drugs. Customers come and hang out in and around the building all the time. Talk about feeling unsafe!! Teenagers from other buildings hang out and destroy the downstairs laundry facilities because it's their secret hideout and 'office' as one teen said when asked. The entire place is not kid friendly at all! There are no swings or areas where children can play, but has a work out room that hardly ever gets used by its tenants (go figure). Mold, unreliable heat and insulation problems. Management will raise your rent at a drop of a hat. I started paying high-end $800 for my apt. and within 3 yrs rent is now close to $1100. Management sucks, they are either vacationing or 'showing an apartment' everytime you call (go ahead leave a message, no one will call back). Communication is really bad, expect xeroxed notes rolled and stuck between your doorknob, if you are lucky - most of these notices get blown away with the wind, nasty neighbors take it down or it gets destroyed when it rains. Sure this is apartment living, but more like city apartment living! If you are not a smoker get ready for second hand smoke to follow you everytime you enter your apartment. Residents are rude and will hang and smoke by their front doors all freakin day long (one of my nieghbors even has a chair and ashtray conveniently located outside her door, how nice!). Section 8 housing and Stonyford applicants are abundant at all the housing facilities, just to give you an idea of what the community is like here. Our original reason for coming here was to save for a house and for the PB school district but now the economy sucks and we are stuck! My advice: Before renting, demand changes!

So where would you expect them to smoke? They live there too, and pay rent like you. For you to complain about second hand smoke when they are smoking OUTSIDE is a bit ridiculous. It could be worse you know. If they smoked indoors it would eventually permeate your apartment too. I bet you're a joy to have as a neighbor too. Stop complaining about smokers; we have been ousted from smoking everywhere else.

WOW!!! I have to agree this place is horrible now. I've been here for a few years and my rent has been increasing an average 10% or higher (I'm in the process of looking to move),Also imagine your building's laundry room having derelict/homeless people sleeping and smoking in them all day and night and mgmt does nothing. However drug selling is very bad and can be dangerous. Best bet is to move when you are financially able to and don't let mgmt convince you to call the crappy Town Of Walkill police as they don't have a clue and then you will be on their file as being a tenant who called and complained and it may get back to the neighbors.
Second hand smoke kills faster. If cigerette smokers want to chain smoke all day and night then they need to be considerate whether in or outside their apartments.

As far as smoking, just be considerate! Sheesh! Why should others be forced to smoke with you? Smoke in your home or out on your patio, you don't have to loiter or litter outside your front doorway. Do smokers even consider the health of small children? Their tiny, growing, immature lungs can not handle the toxins as well as adults do...just be considerate!
