Great locationand community...but the construction of the building can be better

Avalon on The Sound is conveniently located by the Metro North railroad and near I-95. New Rochelle is a small but nice and clean community. I like the fact that its within walking distance to Stop & Shop and other smaller stores as well as a Regal movie theater. It is absolutely beautiful to see trees everywhere as well as the sound with sailboats in the summer time. Other pluses of this building are a half basketball court, a small gym, a clubhouse and an outdoor swimming pool. The ground is absolutely beautiful and well kept and the barbeque area is a nice touch (and kept some of us full and happy during the blackout :-)

Now lets talk about the cons: One major issue I have with this apartment is the NOISE. I cant believe the walls that separate me from my neighbors are so thin. I cannot believe that every word my next door neighbors say is clearly audible and its not like they are screaming or yelling; they are just speaking at the normal volume. I am also privy to the type of tv programs they like and what time they get up for work in the morning. In addition, I dont even need to turn on my stereo, I can just listen along with my neighbors from either downstairs/upstairs (cant quite tell because it just sounds like its from the inside of my apartment). The second problem I have is the heating unit. I have been renting quite a few luxury apartment buildings in the past and i have to say that this apartment has the worst heating unit. The air that gets blown out of the unit is just slightly luke warm and the unit is constantly working because its barely able to keep the apartment warm on a cold day. What a waste of money on electricity for such inefficiency. Also, I was surprised to get my first water/electricity bill. I was not too happy with the fact that the information that I received from the leasing agents regarding utilities did not correspond with what I read on the bills. The hours of the clubhouse are also a bit baffling. Why is the clubhouse closed so early on a saturday and sunday' Shouldnt the clubhouse be opened at all times'
The competency of the leasing agents can also be improved. I have been having some problems with them since I moved in. One of the most recent examples is a heating problem that I reported to the office but no work order was ever sent in, I even called the emergency number twice at night during that really cold period in order to get someone to come fix it. So not suprisingly, I found out that the heating unit was not properly fixed to the wall and the insulation was almost non-existent, this causes the cold air to be drawn in from the outside everytime I turned the heater on, I guess that would explain why the apartment got colder when its on. Funny enough - when I explained it to the office staff, I was told to leave it on for hours in order for it to warm up. If a heater needs hours to warm up, I would suggest recycling the unit and at least we can have better use of the metal! Overall, its not bad but it wont hurt to improve.
