Avalon on the Sound
< | >
When I was looking for apartments, I used apartmentratings.com, and I sometimes wondered if some of the reviews were posted by management; so, for what it's worth, I'm not one of them!
I've lived here at Avalon on the Sound for a little over three months now. Overall, my experience has been great. The location of the building is hard to beat, with it 1 mile from I-95 and with it directly behind the New Rochelle train station; the ride to GCS is about 35 minutes, and the miraculous thing is that although I live on a lower floor, I have to be at the window and listen very hard to hear the trains pass by. This is because the trains rarely blow their horn, although on the very rare occasion that they do, it can be heard clearly.
The building is well-kept (you frequently see people cleaning/clearing the snow immediately when there is inclement weather, etc.), and I don't hear my neighbors as some have complained, although if you are walking down the hallway, you can sometimes hear the conversations/TV of your neighbors.
As for the management, they are generally nice and helpful, though truth be told you're probably better off asking the concierge for the real deal on many matters. Having the management on-site and having their offices open seven days a week is a plus.
Parking is indeed ample (your guests can park in the garage too); I haven't used the other amenities such as the gym, indoor basketball court, etc. yet so I can't really comment on those.
The primary drawback for me is that there does not appear to be too many decent restaurants/food options in the area. When friends come up, we usually end up in Stamford or White Plains, both about 25-30 minutes away.
The area is supposedly up-and-coming. Avalon has plans for building a second building diagonally across from this building, and another developing is interested in building a high rise across from New Roc City.
When looking into this building, I'd speak to more than one sales agent, as my experience was that I got different rent prices and incentives available from different agents.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail me at whchang@aol.com. Please put Avalon in the subject line so I know it's not junk e-mail ;-).
One final thing - if you own a car (parking space is included in the rent), you may find this a big pain: the building only gives you one key pass to access everything in the building, so have to keep the keypass separately from your car keys, since you need the key pass to get into the parking garage. For all the rent we pay, you'd think they could give residents a second keypass to keep in their vehicles.
Good luck with your apartment hunt.
