love it with reservations

i mostly love it here but they sure don't want us to stay.
the more turnover the more they can charge. they are always imposing more fees, more rules.
if we don't turn in a guest bracelet for the pool that night we are charged $25 or more, if we lose a bracelet i think it's $50. for a rubber wrist band.
parking will be charged separate for existing tenants, with discounts after 2 years of residency. i suspect they will be opening up the garage to commuters for day parking.
they barely have a coat of paint on the walls so if you get a mark it is impossible to clean it up without leaving another mark, either a water stain or the paint just comes off.
the kitchen 'tile' is so cheap it gets dented and scuffed when they move the fridge and oven back into place after installing the 'tile'.
the firehouse is up the street and is noisy - not to mention that the alarm keeps going off here for no apparent reason.
i don't hear anything from my neighbors except when they slam their front doors, regardless of what time of day or night. maybe i just got lucky with my neighbors, but, i gave the noise 5 stars due to my quiet neighbors, not for the firehouse which gets one star.
the view is lovely.
there are no screens on the upper floors and i keep getting ladybugs and wasps in here. and no screens allowed.
there has been jelly on the handle of the garbage chute and light switch for about 6 months - i keep meaning to bring a wipe but i forget... and i guess it's wishful thinking that maintenance would clean it.
the original rent price is supplemented by a lot of extra fees at lease signing, including $100k renter's insurance that must be acquired independent of the leasing co.
i hear that a lot of people get their cars towed - the concierge is not allowed to help you out by giving a courtesy call or asking the tow company not to take this or that car.
the concierge staff has changed frequently, and i am grateful that some of the new ones didn't last.
i've never had a problem with the maintenance crew, i've also not had a need for them.
some people have had outrageous utility bills, i was in tears when i heard what someone was paying before i had received my first bill. my bills have not been outrageous as yet, i do not run the ac, but i did run the heat continuously.
the only cable company available is cablevision, and no satellite.
it is a wifi area.
the pool is only open from 10-9p, there is a lifeguard, and it is only 4'8" at the deepest part. it is outdoors and the bug flaps are mostly broken. it is only open from memorial day to labor day.
the exercise room is 24 hours.
the elevators are a bit scary and sometimes smell of burning plastic.
the heat was off last year for a week - and it was darned cold, no one told us anything and they just kept saying that it was being fixed. no refunds or adjustments to the rent were made.
my biggest fear is moving day - when they will probably try to charge me for the shoddy workmanship of the walls, not just thin paint, but cracks along mouldings and taping seams. we are warned on moving in day to mark every little thing wrong or we WILL be charged for it when we move out. i am in terror that i didn't catch or wasn't specific enough about the dings and scratches in the counters or appliances.
their memos are generally threatening in some way. when we had yet another false fire alarm - this one in the middle of the night - many people with children went out into the winter night - as children learn to do in school. so, we get a memo to remind us that the policy is to stay in our homes unless we hear otherwise. they will not tell us over the intercom that everything is ok, they will only let us know if we have to leave. it was scolding rather than apologetic.
it all seems rather like warnings and threats and scoldings here. not the friendly community atmosphere that they advertise.
they advertised a guest suite available for $100 a night, within a month or two at most they had raised it to $150 a night, both with a $10 parking fee. still a fairly reasonable rate, but typical that they should raise the price by 50%.
but, all in all, despite management and the owners who apparently are publicly traded i do like it here. i would like to renew my lease if they don't raise the rent, i already know i will have to pay a huge fee for a parking spot if i do renew.
luckily i still have time to decide if i want to stay here, and i probably will not due to rent increases and such.
and, if you know you are leaving - which most people do decide long before their lease is up, you have to let your utilities know 2 months in advance or there is some more money you have to pay. you also have to let the leasing office know well in advance or there are more fees.
it's a shame, i wish they wanted their tenants to stay. they have a good thing going here but pure greed doesn't care about quality or happy customers, just the money they wring from us until we can legally escape their bonds and they can entrap new victims.
i hope things will improve before i have to join the exodus.
