Not worth the money or aggravation

I moved in May of 2008 and everything that has been said before on this forum is true. The finishes are cheap, the leasing agents do not return phone calls, and often there is no one in the leasing office for long stretches of time. My move was a long distance one, and they made it very difficult. I was told there was only one apartment that fit my criteria available, and then later on someone called me to say that another prospective tenant was going to take it unless I put a deposit down. Of course I did, as I was in a bind to find a place. After that, it was all downhill. They made "mistakes" on my lease, which they then argue about correcting. They promised a variety of things they never delivered on. No one, absolutely no one, mentioned anything about the EXTREMEMLY loud road construction that goes on from 10PM to 6AM. I am on a high floor and we all have to wear ear plugs at night. The building is starting to deteriorate and needs constant maintenance, and they are very cheap about it. One of things they brag about on a corporate level is that they've found a way to pass along most of their costs to the tenants. Been here just a few months, and despise the folks at the leasing office and maintenance staff as well. Not a good choice for New Rochelle.

It's obvious that Avalon really built this place on the cheap and it's starting to show now. Surfaces and materials are not wearing well and any repairs they do are equally on the cheap. Remember this is owned and operated by a publicly traded company so their loyalty is first to their shareholders, not you the resident. As such, they'll want to make sure they get as much money from you as possible and invest as little as possible back in the building, saving it for the shareholders. Setting aside all the administrative problems and other issues with this building (and the 'East' building across the street), the simple cost of living here is absolutely not worth it. When you add up the rest and all the other fees you're paying for far far more than you get in return. For the same, or even less, per month you could buy a similar sized apartment in one of the many nice buildings in this part of Westchester county... considering that I simply don't see the point of renting in this building on a long term basis.
