Is this the New York standard' The staff disappoints.

First, my individual unit is actually pretty nice. The construction for the most part is of above average quality. There have been problems with all the light switches sticking but that was fixed promptly. The heaters are like individual radiators with an archaic thermostat system. You would think that for $2300/month you could get central heating with a modern day digital thermostat! My bedroom heater still doesn't work properly even after being "fixed".
Ultimately there are some policies that ruin my experience. Parking - yes they will start charging $25/month for parking after your first year lease ends. Oh, and by the way, if you live on floors 1-13 you have to park in the adjacent garage across the street. A real pain with rain/snow/ice. This is especially disturbing considering that their original property Avalon on The Sound just kiddy-corner from us is connected to the garage with an enclosed walkway but we are not. Who the hell planned that!!! If you want parking in the attached garage next to the property you either have to live in the upper floors or settle for a spot on garage floors 4,5 or 6 but pay $50-$200/month extra to rent those spots. Ok, fine. But the real kicker is that the only elevator for that garage hasn't worked longer than a week straight for months! Kick me while I'm down already! Oh yes, in case you consider all this hoopla secure, know that we've recently had several vehicles in that garage broken into for various electronic equipment. This is apparently going on all over the area right now.
Security - sure it feels secure. In an effort to control access to their "community", each resident on the lease is assigned only one set of apartment keys and one key fob which allows access into the building. If you want an extra key (for family or maid service) it will cost you an extra $10 but only after months of begging from staff and it depends on which staff member you talk to because each story is different. And the key fob' No extras ever because that would jeopardize access to their community even though its the RESIDENTS that control who has that extra key fob. How much help you get from the concierge/guard at night depends on the individual. Some are nice and will help or relay your concerns to the leasing office in the morning. Others don't have a clue and give you false information or say they can't help, talk to the office in the morning. Thanks.
The gym - nice equipment but STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Its kind of depressing to walk into the gym where the ceiling tiles are missing 7 months after moving in!
Elevators - I already mentioned the one in the garage but of course there is always something going on with the 6 or so in the building itself. The response from staff is "Yes we know, we're working on it." Also still under construction being used by the contractors to finish the building. Yes, the "Top of The Roc" resident lounge has yet to be finished.
Oh yeah, almost forgot the Verizon Cable TV fiasco. So Verizon was contracted with outfitting the entire building with cable and phone connections. I was told by several staff that we could not use any other cable phone company other than Verizon because "it was not technically feasible to hook into their connections" or "the connection fee and rates were too high". Hmmm, I did some research and long story short, I had my Optimum Triple Play set up in no time without any extra fee or hassle. Verizon kickbacks' Uninformed, dishonest staff strikes again.
Being new to NYC I wonder if this is just the way it is because I've never lived in such a resident-unfriendly unit in my 20 years of apartment living. Unfortunately this is probably the best you're going to get unless you want to fork up $500,000 for a new studio in Trumps Tower a couple of blocks north of us. That assumes that New Rochelle is up and coming. I think it is...'
