TOTAL NIGHTMARE

Reading the reviews that the other people left explains why EVERYONE IN THE BUILDING always has such an attitude! Many of the other residents are unfriendly and snooty. However, I would take that any day over the ghetto- ass people that have been moving in, which was explained by the fact I recently found out that they take Section 8 vouchers! The leasing office is a nightmare. as one other person stated, and as I have stated to friends many times- they are nice until you sign the lease, and after that , good luck reaching them! I have had the same problems with rude staff, noisy heating waking me up at night- (and that is when the heating even works), elevators always broken, and my car being towed.
When you are signing the lease, they start out saying the rent will cost a certain amount and then add on hundreds of dollars in fees. At first they told us that parking was included; then they told us it was $50. Then we were told that $50 was only for uncovered parking on the top floor of the lot and if I wanted covered parking it was $150. I finally gave in and got the more expensive spot, and not a week after renting the new spot, my car was towed from my own parking spot! I was shocked because i had paid the fee, and expected to at least be notified by the leasing office if there was a problem with my car. I had to drive for 30 minutes all across westchester to get my car and the towing co would only accept cash. Not even a week later, they towed my car AGAIN from my parking spot. I had to go through the same thing again. No one in the leasing office would return calls or talk about refunding the towing fee even though I was towed from my own spot where I pay to park and, supposedly have some peace of mind about the safety and availability of my car! To make matters worse, the next day while I was out, someone with one of the less expensive spots decided to park in my spot. When I notified the towing company, they wouldn't tow the car, and I had to park in the visitors parking- risking my car being towed yet again- while the other guy stayed in my spot all weekend! Meanwhile, I had to keep going out to check on my car every hour or so to make sure the jerks from the towing company didn't tow me again! The leasing office has not answered their phone all week and won't return the numerous messages we have left for them.
I have only been here about a month and already I can't wait for my lease to be up! This building has been an absolute nightmare for me, and on top of that I am definitely paying for a supposedly "luxury" accomodation. NOthing about this building is luxury! Don't be fooled by the granite countertops and hardwood floors, because in the end you will regret moving here, just as I do!

Hi, I'm very interested in your post because I'm moving there in a few weeks, and I have a question. About the towing from your own spot- I guess what I don't understand is, why did they tow it? Did you not have a tag in your window or was there some misunderstanding about if the spot was paid for? It seems odd that your car would be towed randomly. Please explain so that I can try to avoid that. Thanks!

I am not the person who made the original post but I can tell you that they are operating a towing scam. You would think that they might reasonably try to contact their resdients, sticker their cars, maybe even boot them but they actually tow every car in sight. Even if you are unloading in the 15-minute loading zone, they will tow you without considering how long you have been there. Avalon management gets a cut of the towing fees. Read other posts in this forum and the other Avalon building to see other comments about this issue. Here is an article that was published in the Journal News: http://www.4car.net/english/press/catalog/375/index.html After that article appeared they changed the name of the towing company to make it appear as if they had changed their contract. i moved in a week ago and i just got ripped by getting my car booted for 48$ since i am a "resident" and not a "Future Resident". i parked it in Future Residen spot which was partially striked out and said "Resident parking". now can i move out from the building its not even 15 days since i signed the lease.

I live here as well and agree with ALL POSTS here. This is the worst living conditions you can imagine. This place is a joke, and has caused more stress in my life than i can possibly explain. We should all rally and go to channel 7 news (7 on your side) and make a forceful complaint.

These posts are absolutely right. You are way over paying for a very ------ service and a mediocre apartment. The parking is a nightmare! My car got towed away today! The staff are exceptionally rude here. I still can't believe they towed away my car from my own spot despite the fact that my tag was completely visible!

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT stay in Avalon on the Sound OR Avalon on the Sound East, or any of the Avalon communities for that matter. They nickel and dime you for every single thing that they can get you for. And the service is HORRIBLE! For the record , I am staying at Avalon on the Sound, but I have friends and coworkers who are staying at Avalon on the Sound East, and also one in Long Island. I will give you some examples. I met a nice couple who had been renting with Avalon on the Sound for 5 years. Their rent was around 2000 dollars a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. When they told the leasing office that they just wanted to spend one more month after their lease was up, the leasing office decided to make the rent for the last month 3500 dollars!!!! There was nothing they could do. On top of that, they had to pay the amenities fee (which covers pool and gym and barbecue area) for 600 dollars!!!!! Does that sound fair at all? To screw an honest, hardworking couple who had been a loyal customer for 5 years straight??? Also, they are very shady when you try to ask them what a typical monthly utilities expense will be. The leasing office will NEVER give you a straight answer. Go ahead and try and ask. Some months, it will be 50-60 dollars. Quite normal right? Then, the next month it shoots up to 200 dollars!!! And you look just look at the bill, and wonder, how in the world did they figure this math out?!?! Also, the elevators are constantly breaking down. Gym machines will break down (that's normal) but it will be left unfixed for weeks. Repair requests take forever. I still have a problem with my refrigerator and it's now going on 2 months and no nothing. And please do not fall for the leasing associates tactics. They have a smile on their face and act like you're the most important person in the world. Then, once you are a resident and sign that 13 month lease, all of a sudden they forget you and you are a nobody. and your problems are pushed to the way side. They are so fake. They also have lied about certain things. I do not want to get into it because it's going to take all night. But I just want you all to know that I do not usually complain about things. And this situation that I have here is so messed up, that I felt the need to warn people about it. Word to the wise. Beware of Avalon!!!!!!! Please look elsewhere. You'll be glad you did.
