I enjoyed my time at Harbor House.

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I lived at Harbor House and had very few problems. My apartment was beautiful, nothing ever went wrong inside the apartment - plumbing was fine, all my appliances in the kitchen were brand new and were wonderful to use. The hardwood floors were so shiny in my apartment - they looked like they were still wet with varnish - I got so many compliment on them! The location of the apartment building is great, in a very nice area - a little out of the way if you're a commuter and need to take the train every day, but not too bad. I will say that, though it wasn't the reason I moved out, the rent was going to increase about $200 if I renewed my lease, and on a one-bedroom apartment for a single person living alone - that would have been significant to me. The one problem I did have was, ironically, the day before I moved out - in the back of my apartment building is a fire lane, which the office told me that I could use for moving as you're able to pull up to the back door, rather than trying to move things out of the front of the building. Well, I come downstairs with a load of stuff and some sleazy looking men in a utility van have put a boot on the wheel of my car and told me I'm parked illegally and will have to pay them $50 to remove the boot. I explained to them I lived in the building and was moving and could move my car back to my parking spot if they'd like, but I didn't think I should have to pay. It's a long story - but the guys ended up calling the cops on me since I wouldn't pay (I was trying to call the super for help) and the cops made me pay the guy (apparently Harbor House has hired them to tow illegally parked cars in the lot) and when I called the management office to complain about how I was treated, they didn't offer much help, since the tow guys are under contract, Harbor House can't govern their actions apparently. The office told me that these guys are actually less mean than the company they had before - which I find hard to believe. Actually, one complaint I did have about Harbor House is that parking is assigned and because it's so limited - your spot is often far from your door (hence why I needed to park in the fire lane for moving). But overall, I would say my experience at Harbor House was very pleasant. Oh, and lastly, just a note - for some odd reason, the walls are cement, so if you plan on putting up shelves or anything heavy - make sure you have a power screwdriver with a cement bit. For pictures that aren't heavy and just need a small nail - you're fine, but anything that needs to go in to the wall more than 1/2 inch - you hit cement. Also - in response to people complaining about bugs - I never noticed any sort of critter - but I also lived on the 4th floor. I think in large apt buildings the best rule of thumb is to stick to the higher floors - it's almost impossible for a large apt building not to have some sort of bug problem, but the higher up you go, the better off you are.
