Great staff, poor building design, overpriced

I moved here in January and cannot wait to get out of my lease. It is not that I don't like the front desk staff and valet service--for the most part, the employees of this building are helpful and friendly. But I can't justify my high rent price for what is basically a glorified studio and doesn't have proper temperature control. Where to start'
The upper hallways and elevators are unheated and uncooled, but the apartment entrances are not sealed and insulated. That means that during cold weather, your heat may be on full blast but your entryway and any nearby rooms will be frigid, as all of the warm air is sucked out into the hallway. In hot weather, the opposite occurs, and your "home office" (alcove studio) will be unbearably hot, even as your guests freeze in the living area and kitchen.
Sound and cigarette smoke carry horribly well through the ventilation shafts between apartments, which are really just little tunnels with a grate on each end. A toilet flushing in another unit will ensure that your shower loses all pressure for a minute or so. The drains in both kitchen and bathroom are constantly backed up. The dishwasher doesn't entirely drain and the dishes are thus never ever dry at the end of the cycle. Fuses blow in the bathroom on a regular basis.
The floors, although new, are already starting to warp a little bit. The windows have no screens, so if you have a cat or small child, don't even think about opening your window all the way for ventilation. A crack will have to suffice.
I could go on and on about the poor design of this apartment. It's obvious that extreme cost-cutting measures were taken in the design and construction of it. Not giving your luxury tenants proper temperature control is absolutely ludicrous; if I wanted to be sweltering and sleepless through Memorial Day I would cut my rent in half and move to a Hell's Kitchen tenement. Management was entirely unresponsive to our begging for air conditioning. We were told, essentially, that it wasn't their problem.
I love the gym underneath the building--it's clean, classy, and very well-staffed and well-equipped. But I don't live in the gym.
If rents were lowered drastically, this place would be worth it. Some of the units have breathtaking views, the area is up-and-coming, and the staff, as mentioned before, couldn't be sweeter. But at the prices we are currently paying, I expect much higher quality and, above all, individual temperature control by unit. Giving us a motel-quality heat register doesn't count.

OK, you're an idiot. I'm going on my second year here and some of the things you say seem more motivated by feelings than facts.
Clean your hair out of the drains and they will run fine. Every high-rise building I've lived at in Manhattan does not offer screens. If you have pets or kids then you should have had the safety grates put in - it was in the lease and rider documents you signed three times. I have never lost shower pressure from a toilet flush, in my unit or from others. I've been in three apts at the building so I have a good idea of what I'm talking about. The fuse thing I don't know about because I've never had that happen.
The one thing I will agree with is the unheated hallways, it is annoying.

Has it occurred to you that not every unit operates as well as yours? Perhaps instead of namecalling, you could accept that other people might have a different experience than you do! Or maybe you're management--seems likely, given your odd hostility and inability to refute my claims calmly, like an adult.

I have to agree with the first Anonymous poster - the problems you list are typical of ALL high rise buildings I've ever seen in NYC. Heat is a major issue, as is ventilation, lack of screens etc. I have just spent the past 2 months trying to find a better place to live, however, and let me tell you -- there is NOTHING better out there for the price (at least the price I'm paying) in fact, the conditions in alternative buildings are drastically worse for a lot more money (and instead of urine on the sidewalks they have roaches and mice in the units). I say count your blessings and take a look around you - this is NYC, nothing is going to be perfect!
