smoke coming through vents

Moved in two weeks ago, and last night noticed an overpowering cigarette smell coming through the vents in my bedroom. This is NOT acceptable. I'm a non-smoker and expect that my apartment should have clean air for me to breath. Have others experienced this' Any solutions' I'd rather have the vent closed or blocked than breath in that offensive smell and expose myself to second hand smoke. This is not a simple annoyance, it's a health issue.
