The worst mistake I have made in a LONG time was signing a lease with Jakobson Properties and moving into 11 Waverly Place. For the first 5 months, we had a constant mouse problem. At times, we were catching 2-3 a NIGHT. no exageration. After finally getting them to come fill the numerous holes, which should have been filled before we moved in, summer rolled around. For the 2 hottest weeks in July (heat advisorys on some days), Jakobson Properties decided to do work on the outside of the building, therefore removing all of the air conditioners for 2 weeks!! I could go on, but am getting so mad thinking about the horrible people that run these buildings. Live in New Jersey before you live here. There is no area cool enough or convenient enough to pay money to these people. I promise!

I totally agree. A few months ago, after fighting like hell with the managers here, I was able to get one of the maintenence people to check out a nasty smell that was coming from my wall. It turns out that they found nearly 100 dead or dying mice in my wall. They took forever to fix the problem--although I still live with mice--and refused to give me any compensation for the nights when I had to leave the apartment because of the awful smell. So you are definitely right: If you move here, you are crazy!!!

Landlord tennant law is very generous in New York City. I highly recomend that you consider taking your landlord to court. This is a link to the NYC HPD(Housing Preservation and Development)website FAQ

I agree. Jakobson Properties has the worst maintenance I've ever experienced. Jakobson Properties will nickel and dime you on fradulent charges and repeatedly ignore your requests for assistance. Uncaring and purely money-driven. Jakobson Properies = never again.
