New, with a young crowd

We moved in to 2 Gold within a month of the leasing office opening, so have been there from the start. It is rare to find a totally new apartment in New York, and the location, as well as the views from most of the floors, is great. Subway access is so easy downtown, given all of the lines converge in the Fulton Street area, so you are never more than 30 minutes from anywhere uptown when it comes to going out.

The residents are a strange mix of students crammed in to small apartments, and young city-types in suits. There are very few people in the building over the age of 35, so it's a pretty young feeling overall.

The roof terrace is spectacular (you will always be bringing your friends up to wow them with the view), and the 3rd floor amenities are good for New York, even through the gym appears to be growing old already.

Apartments are pretty good - you tend to get a little more space for your money downtown, compared to UES/UWS. Most have good light with floor-to-ceiling windows. There's not much shopping downtown (but it's getting better over time) so you will have to get used to Fresh Direct. The local deli's subsitute for supermarkets, but they are VERY expensive.

Overall this is an excellent building - so long as you don't mind the young crowd and the limited downtown nightlife and shopping. I look at a lot of places downtown before taking this one, and I think it is one of the best options below 14th St.

Forget Fresh Direct. The following grocery stores are in the neighborhood: Associated, Zeytuna, Jubilee (24 hours/overpriced), CTown (staples only, no gourmet items). There is also a Pathmark (24 hours) between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. The Union Square Greenmarket is just one subway stop away (14th Street). In the summer a smaller version of the Greenmarket is right on Fulton Street on Fridays.
