I agree that many of the young residents there are simply rude and nasty. At the same time, it isn't unique to this bldg. I think those young kids from the Midwest, small-town NJ, etc. are just SCARED to be in the City, and they don't know how to act...
I also believe they misguidedly think that being nasty would make them appear more like New Yorkers and perhaps "high class." In my experience, though, if you are friendly to them, most of them will open up to you. But, then, you shouldn't have to "educate" and "train" your fellow residents to be civil...

I agree with you! I just moved into 2 Gold Street and the people are beyond rude: they are utterly obnoxious! I am a native New Yorker, and if they continue to treat me like s**t in the elevator, I will teach them what New Yorkers do to spoiled rich brats like that! I entered the elevator where an arrogant SOB decided to lean his elbow on boxes I was carrying. I didn't give a "hoot" about the boxes but I cared about the "principle" of it: how arrogant of him! So I cursed him out in front of my 7 year old daughter who earlier had been victimized by the purse of an arrogant blonde "chick" (the blonde idiot didn't bother to look behind her to see that perhaps a child was in the elevator). My wife is pregnant. If an arrogant f**k like this guy in the elevator or that blonde chick puts their elbow/purse on my child's carriage, they will really learn what a (strong) New Yorker will do! I also now understand why older adults get annoyed by the younger crowd and I am only about 5-10 years older than these spoiled rich brats!
