I have lived at 420W42 since the summer of 2007 and have enjoyed it immensely. The rent is very reasonable given the location and quality of this building. The staff in the building are all great - from speedy maintenance turnaround, to helpful doormen, cleaning staff, etc. The apartments have new stainless steel appliances, and the floor plans are spacious. Buildings in Manhattan are often advertised as "door man buildings", which turns out to just be someone at a desk. During regular hours, there is almost always a door man at the lobby entrance to open the door and greet you. They assist with carrying in bags, hailing taxis, etc. While seemingly simple, I appreciate these services.

The reason I am moving is due to the location of the building. Don't get me wrong, it's VERY convenient to the heart of Manhattan, subway lines, etc. The problem is the heavy development on the west side. That combined with tourist attractions (Circle Line, Museum, etc) at the Pier, the foot traffic and noise on the street has increased since I moved in. If I could take the building and place it 15-20 streets up, I'd stay in a heartbeat.

Overall, GREAT EXPERIENCE, and would highly recommend.

I completely agree. Its a wonderful place to live. It's just a little overwhelming because of how crowded it is on the street but it is 42nd street!

1) doormen are rude. they have lost two packages they said were in their hands. This is just in last few months. More the last couple years. 2) the porters have alcohol on their breath. it takes weeks for simple things to get done. 3) it is very noisy here. 4) the doormen in the evening smoke and it stinks up the entire lobby and sometimes will get in elevator and go to your floor. 5) the walls are very thin. we hear our neighbors tv set. 6) i find the size to be small compared to the other buildings i have now seen in the area. 7) we are leaving when lease is up. 8) over priced. be careful!
