I have lived in a studio apartment in Gateway Plaza for six months now and I don't know that I could recommend it as a place to live. On the positive side the apartments are fairly large and my experience with the maintainence staff has been excellent. The laundry room is good and the door staff have always been helpful and friendly to me. The location is good if you work downtown. On the other hand there are many negatives. The apartments are supposed to be sound proof (that's primarily why I moved here) but they are not. From the howling and barking beagle next door to the neighbor above me without carpeting I am barraged with noise. Most people have at least one dog and usually two so it's more like living in a kennel than an apartment complex. The entrance to the complex both from the street and the promenade usually reeks of dog urine. Shopping in Battery Park City in general is terrible and so are the restaurants. It's a long walk to the subway and BPC is both physically and psychologically isolated from the rest of Manhattan and even the rest of downtown. Overall, living here is tolerable but I would not recommend it.
