Before I moved in I read allot of negative reviews. Luckily I had a coworker living in the building that said it was great. I looked at allot of places downtown before settling on Gateway. Every other place I looked at was more expensive with fewer amenities.

I rented a studio on the south side of a middle floor in the 400 building.

Pros:
The layout of the apartment is great and the unobstructed view is amazing, Verrazano bridge, statue of liberty, and Ellis Island; also a great location for viewing fireworks on the Hudson.

The walls of the apartments are solid concrete; you will not hear your neighbors through the walls, at all. Noise does come through the doors, so if your neighbor has a bird like one of mine you might hear it every once and a while.

The doormen are great, friendly, and helpful.

I've never had an issue getting a washing machine or dryer in the laundry room.

The gym (extra cost) is very adequate; it also includes the pool and hot tub.

They just renovated the hallways in my building. The new wallpaper and rugs are a huge improvement.

They are modernizing the elevators (I hope its more than cosmetic)

The location is great.

The garage has an Avis car rental

Cons:

The only real downside of living here has been the elevators. They really need to be upgraded to be faster and use better logic. The first elevator is now undergoing modernization, so hopefully this will fix things.

One other thing to note is the electric is a bit expensive. The bill for my studio fluctuates from $90 - $180

I honestly believe I would have had many more issues had I rented one of the other apartments I looked at. Allot of the new construction going up around the area is not as solid as Gateway. If you are considering moving in, I hope my review has helped you make a decision.
