Pretty impressive in a great neighborhood

GREAT doorman and staff. Common areas are clean, any urgent problem is promptly addressed. Views on the higher floors are spectacular, although they are building more high rises nearby and obscuring some views, but from the 25th floor and above facing south you can see the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, downtown, and a huge stretch of the Hudson (which is perfect if you like watching the ships during Fleet Week or the huge cruiseliners, like the QM2). North view has a beautiful view of the Palisades stretching off toward the GW Bridge (which is quite pretty from a distance) and a sweeping view of the upper midtown skyscrapers.
The apartments are pretty spacious and full of light, hardwood floors, new appliances. The building is fine with subdiving apartments and will even put up a wall for you (although plan on paying a good $1k for it). In an otherwise incredibly noisy neighborhood (Hell's Kitchen is booming, the Broadway theatre and rush hour traffic going to the Lincoln Tunnel completely clogs the streets - be a New Yorker and take subways instead of driving), the walls and windows are remarkably soundproof. Each apartment has several independently-controlled heater/AC units, but remember, while heat is free in NYC, you pay out the nose for electricity for A/C. Bathrooms are pretty standard but nice. My first apartment here was a 1-bdrm, and the bathroom had a beautiful window - disconcerting at first taking a shower exposed to all of NYC, I grew to love waking up and taking a shower while floating over the city and watching the sun rise sparkle over the Hudson. Mt second apartment here was a 2-bdrm, which is great, but alas, the bathrooms have no windows.
A note about the neighborhood - Hell's Kitchen ROCKS. Tons of places to eat, drink and be merry are all within blocks. And the neighborhood is definitely up-and-coming. Mixed ethnicities, races, ages, and sexual orientations - it's true New York. And I've never had any problems with safety at all.
Gym is cheap and basic but there are bigger (and much more expensive) gyms nearby. All residents have access to surprisingly clean sauna facilities and a nice little sundeck that, because it's only on the second floor, doesn't have much in the way of views or sun but is a great place to hang out with friends and relax with a bottle of wine or whatever.
Other residents are a mix of ages and family statuses, with everything from grad students to young couples to families to elderly couples. People generally mind their own business, but not in a bad way - if you choose to talk to them, pretty much everyone is quite friendly.
That does it I guess - in sum, I'd say if you've got to pay out the nose to live in New York, do it at New Gotham - and the best fringe benefit is you don't have to pay a dumb broker thousands of dollars in a finder's fee!
