Ok I wonder where all these great reviews are coming from. Either these are from people who have had horrid experiences at previous buildings, hence have really low expectations or they are plain liars (recruited by the owner/management) to paint false pictures about this building.
First of all, there is nothing, absolutely NOTHING special about this building. It's almost hidden in the middle of the block right beside a fire station that gets annoyingly noisy every other hour when the fire truck pulls out or comes in. The super is great and most of the staff are friendly, but that's about the only good thing about the building. The building itself is highly overrated and absolutely OVERPRICED! Make sure you do your research well before you make the mistake. It's really not too hard to figure: the two buildings on the same block (Strand and Riverside Place, or something like that) are so much cheaper and frankly, offer more for your money.
A new management took over and started raising the rent astronomically. The hallways look like something from a cheap hostel and the bathrooms and kitchens are at best, basic - simply lack the mere luxuries of comparable buildings. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this building simply for the asking price. For the rents they charge, you can get much more for your money from newer buildings with more luxurious finishings.

so why in the world do you stay? I've lived here for 4 years and have had a good experience. I'm not saying the 4 years have been perfect - and my rent did go up - but the positive has always outweighed the negative, and that's why I've stayed. No one is twisting your arm - there are thousands of bldgs you can go live at.

To the last poster <<<=== LOL, of course there will always be a goon who comes in to lie on behalf of the management! I'm sure you've not heard of a thing called 'breaking lease' or the financial consequences of such an act, otherwise you won't ask the ridiculous question you asked above. I won't be surprised to find out this is one of those tenants who pay $250 for a 2 bedroom apart on the 30-something floor!

Well you got people who are always going to complain about everything. You want top notch luxury? Pay $25,000 a month or go buy a top of the line luxury unit somewhere. Otherwise, shut the hell up and enjoy life. You're living in New York, as long as the building isn't falling apart, and there aren't pests invading your space you should be happy. And this is coming from a Realtor, it's my job to see hundreds of apartments every single day, New Gotham is not a bad place at all.

to anonymous: read the first asking "why in the world do you stay?" the second sentence says: "we left after a number of years" now rents there are dropping and they are again offering incentives to rent.

LOL.. a stupid realtor talking about renting??? Please! REALLY!
So because one lives in NY, the only expectation should be not to have a pest-infestation (which by the way some people have had at the New Gotham) or the building shouldn't be falling apart? I can only wonder what your clientele is - people with REALLY low expectations. I guess hearing the truth hurts your business, which I'd imagine is primarily to trick people into taking a less-than-truly-acceptable apartment for the price so long as you get your miserly fee. Folks, if you're seriously considering this building, talk to someone who lives there. I'm sure they'll tell you the truth. And yes, the horrific rents are dropping faster than cow-dung!
