Maybe I've just gotten lucky, but I moved into Normandie about six months ago, and I've had a very pleasant experience. The interior is very new, modern and clean. I haven't had any bugs. The bedroom AC needed to be repaired, so we called up and got a very thorough repairman who quickly diagnosed the problem and brought in a new AC unit.

I love the gym -- great views from the 33rd floor -- though the hours of operation are a bit limited. (It closes at 6 on weekends.) The laundry rooms are enormous--no waiting for a machine here. They're on the first floor, not in some creepy basement!

Having lived in a few other NYC apartments, I'm most appreciative of the QUIET at Normandie. I can't even hear my roommate when she has a TV on in her (converted) room! I never hear any noise out the window. This is essential to me as I'm a light sleeper. For the soundproofing alone I'm tempted to stay at Normandie... though in fact I'm preparing to move to a different neighborhood when my lease runs out.

Honestly, the ONLY drawback I can think of is the location. I much prefer the Upper West Side, home of great hangout places, my workplace and all my friends. So in that sense living on Third Avenue makes me feel like a commuter. =/ But it's very safe and clean over here.

To address other complaints I've read about:
--smells: Yes, you can detect some cooking smells in the five seconds it takes you to walk from the elevator to your apartment door. Big whoop.
--elevator: There's a bit of a wait at rush hour. It has never bothered me. There are a lot of upsides to living in a huge building like Normandie, and this is a small price to pay.
--management and doormen: I haven't had any problems. The doormen seem nice enough. The package room seems perfectly efficient. They email you when they have something for you! People staffing the gym are SUPER FRIENDLY and cheerful 24/7. mgFDbN4-dhkSMZ7zRmVH

I agree with you whole heartedly. I can not understand why some people complain about this building. I've lived here for over 8 years and have never had any issues.

well I lived here 10 years - Management has gone from bad to worst - Try moving out now and see how much havoc they create .. Its easy to get in ...but they make sure that you have to go thru hell on your way out ..
