Great staff, poor elevators, overall pretty good

I'm a different demographic from your typical Normandie resident. I'm in my early 50s, owned a house in the burbs for years, and before that was president of a 53 unit co-op in Brooklyn Heights. I have a son who is about the age of a lot of Normandie residents. I'm moving out soon mostly for lifestyle reasons, although the proposed rent increase (17% on a 1-yr. lease, 30% on a 2-yr.) would have driven me out on its own. That said, I can't hold it against them. I had had a good deal by today's standards ($2295 for a high floor 1 BR). Here's the good: the service staff is excellent -- very helpful and friendly. The place is kept clean and in good repair (although it wastes a huge amount of energy due to imbalance in HVAC, causing lobby staff to have doors open in both hot and cold weather). Here's the bad: it is under-elevatored (the demographic is young, childless and working, so everybody comes and goes at the same time, and people in their 20s and 30s move a lot, so there's a lot of demand due to that). The HVAC units in my apartment are loud energy hogs, but frankly I never complained about them and should have. If, like me, you find it's hard to stomach 50% of a population wearing flipflops year-round, yakking on their cellphones, and using the word "like" in every sentence, then you have to shut your ears and grit your teeth while passing through common areas or while on the elevator. However, once in your apartment, it's really rather quiet. I'm never bothered by any of my neighbors. Also, I agree with another poster that RCN is bad. There were times in my dealings with RCN that I felt RCN was a good reason to not live in the building. The internet connection is excellent, but the TV service is subpar. Just as I typed that last sentence, as game 4 of the ALCS between Cleveland and Boston was about to start, the Fox HD channel went out. That sort of thing is par for the course.
