Great building, if you can tolerate the management

I have just renewed my lease at Normandie court for the fourth year and despite what some of the reviewers have said, I find this building clean, comfortable, convenient and overall an excellent value. Indeed the management office remains inflexible and, generally, a pain to deal with. But since I rarely have anything to do with them, it has only occasionally been a problem for me. More important, the staff who provide the services including the doormen, concierges, guards and, especially, the package room staff are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. Even they chafe a bit at some of the rules, but try within their constraints to provide an excellent service. The laundry rooms can be a problem, since the operation and maintenance are outsourced, but at least they are open 7 x 24 (unlike other buildings) which has been helpful to me. The building is very pet friendly and in the four years I have been here, one elevator (of the three) in my building have been out of service twice for a couple of weeks. Overall, this building gives excellent value. I keep my car in the garage, which is also well-run and a great value, not to mention very convenient. The biggest problem I have is the street noise; since my apartment faces 96th street and 2nd avenue, it seems that every ambulence and fire truck in the city is required to pass this corner with their sirens blaring, so even though I am on a high floor, I cannot always open the windows and enjoy any peace. If you are thinking of this building, I believe a southern view overlooking 95th street may be better.

I am on a high floor facing 95th street and 3rd Avenue. It is JUST as loud as you are describing. I can even hear people talking!! Yes, some of the staff here are nice, but the price is NOT right...maybe if you've been here for a while they didn't make your rent ridiculous, but other than that, it's expensive, no closet space and the management company is full of lies and its just frankly disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this building to ANYONE. We are stuck here until our lease is over - then we will never ever return to this building.

Responding to some of the posted comments; I live in building 225 - the elevators in the other building may have problems. The closets are adequate for my needs, but I saw them before I moved in. From the poster who wrote "maybe they didn't make your rent ridiculous", I can only say that my rent was competative with other buildings when I moved in with only small annual increases. When I renewed this month, there was zero increase. Did the poster not ask about rents or see the closet space? And I am tired of reading about "managemant lies". I would prefer that posters please document problems instead of just name-calling like the adolecents I suspect come to the building with unrealistic expectations.

Anyone that defends the management here or even attempts to refute the buildings shortcomings (to put it very likely) is a member of it's management. I feel bad for anyone that moves in here, it is clearly and truly a horrid experience. There are better apartments/buildings at better prices - anyone that moves in here feels 'taken' after the first month, and for good reason.

Has anyone had experience with extending their lease month-to-month after it expired? Or, can you extend it for 6 months?

Management is the one acting like adolescents. Their illegal harrassment of tenants is too numerous to describe in detail and quite frankly the strong armed tactics are too scary for most tenants to risk being identified should management be reading this. Attitude is thrown around all over the place by these folks.

I have lived in NC for nearly 5 years and agree wholeheartedly with people's comments about management. There are no nice words to describe Julie and her staff - none whatsoever. I think they are inflexible, downright rude and ignorant. However, other members of staff such as the doormen, concierge, maintenance staff and cleaners are all truly wonderful. I have lived in 2 different apts in 205. We rented it at the height of the market and were in truth paying too much. However, we had just had a baby and moving buildings just wasn't an option. When it came to renewal we actually managed to get them to reduce the rent by $700 - so I don't know why people are complaining they don't negotiate because we didn't have a problem. We also managed to sign for only 6 months - in answer to someone's question above, they won't do month to month, 6 months is the shortest lease they do. Lastly - completely agree about the road noise - it drives me insane. I think I notice it more because we face both 3rd and 95th now but it is so loud and just doesn't stop. Overall it's not a bad building compared to some but the management is awful.
