Facelift is not enough.

When this building was renovated to be apartments, the owners did a good job of giving it a pretty facelift.
However, just below the surface, there are a lot of problems.
Case in point: There is a mouse problem in the building that the owners denied existed-even after two mice were found within one week in our apartment.
Another example, the airconditioning unit broke during the hottest week of the summer (this shouldnt happen in a "new" building) and was not properly fixed until it began leaking so badly that the floor was damaged.
The emergency stairwells are filthy and dark.
And there are fire code violations such as non-working fire alarms.
At first look, this is a beautiful building.
But appearances arent everything.
Added detraction: As a general rule, the maintenance people are useless and the management is rude not to mention incompetent.
I lived there for a year and for the first few months I loved living there.
The new appliances, the ample closet space, the included state-of-the-art gym were all fantastic.
But then the problems began.
Admittedly, some problems were as a result of September 11, however, the building management made things worse.
When so many buildings downtown were doing everything they could to get their residents to stay post 9/11, Ocean's tenets fled the building.
In fact, my husband and I got so disgusted with how the building was run, that we moved to one of BPC's Liberty buildings.
A wise decision all around.
