Years at this apartment:

Rented for a year. Was new to the city and looking for someplace close to the subway. This place was a huge mistake. It was close to the subway, but lots of drawbacks.
-Poor insulation in windows and crappy old A/C units led to peak power bills in excess of 300$. -Fire Dept across the street. FDNY, I love you, but you love your sirens and horns immensely. How much traffic is really on 8th ave at 4am' -Really dirty location, I was amazed at the amount of oily soot that collected on things in the apartment from surrounding building's furnaces. -I particularly loved the elevators letting me off on the wrong floors randomly. "Yeah they do that sometimes." is the response from management. -Expect your rental rates to go up 10% a year, even if comparable vacant apartments are going for less. You'd think there would be some advantage to those already in the building. -Is hot water in the morning that much to ask for' -$700 dollars for the gym. Yeah, there's a pool, but it's too short for laps and only 4 treadmills. -The new laundry machines were nice, but it'd be nicer if people didn't clog the detergent dispensers and didn't turn the washers off mid cycle. -Gotta love losing the use of your balcony with no compensation. (Yeah, parts of concrete were falling off the building.) -Others in the building couldn't be bothered to put their trash in the chutes, so it stunk up the halls. Maint did do it daily though. Just laziness. -Be aware that many in the building aren't residents, but staying in corporate apartments (could be part of the trash issue). -Some of the front desk staff was awesome (2-3) the others not so much. -Management was just atrocious. When raising rents 10%, you'd think there'd at least be a phone call or an explanation, nope just a slip under the door. -Neighbors repeatedly burning food, setting off smoke detector daily and filling the halls with smoke and odor. Management- "Well, some cultures are just different." -Standard cable and phone outlets didn't work and required non-standard wiring.
Living in times square was great. The location was awesome, except for the fire station, and that's a BIG except. Some of the doormen were great, but otherwise the staff was pretty bad.
