We got screwed, and so will you if you move in

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
We took a two year lease at Riverbank West and were sorry that we did. We were lured in by the killer view from our 42nd floor, west facing apartment. Once you move in the Maintenance Super, Vincent, could care less about your problems. With the exception of Bill who was terrific, the maintenance staff did not speak enough English to communicate about problems nor could they fix things. We had intermittent banging noises from the heating pipes and the water pipes for the entire two years. We got screwed out of $2,200 of our deposit when we moved for damages that we documented did not exist, and for replacement of an expensive set of mirrored closet doors that we installed with the permission of Marni the office manager! They claim it is a doorman building but in reality they have deskmen who sit at the desk and watch you struggle to open the door with your arms full. The carpet in the hall where the mailboxes are smelled of dog urine much of the time. Throw in the constant horn honking from the Lincoln Tunnel traffic and the seedy West Side neighborhood full of strip clubs and car dealerships and you have a real loser of a building. Keep looking.
