Decent Building, Horrible Staff and Location

Riverbank West was my first apartment in New York and I moved out in June 2005 after living there for 12 months in a 3 bedroom flex with 4 roommates. First the apartment and building itself.
Building is in fair shape, not great (20 years old). Apartments are very large for the price.
Having the Crunch in the building is very convienent. Starbucks is a plus as well.
Doorstaff is very hit or miss. Some of the members of the doorstaff are very courteous, some are incredibly rude. Packages are kept by the Valet which are only open normal business hours, so you can't get your packages if you come home late.
Management is also hit or miss. Sebastain is good cop, Marni is bad cop. However, Marni has all the power, so good luck with any problems you might have. Whether it is a stolen iPod during a scheduled building maintainence visit (no lie) or scheduling move out dates, etc., she lives to make your life difficult and to provide plenty of attitude while doing so.
Location is horrible. No matter how good your broker or the management trys to make it sound when you visit the apartment, try it for a couple days. Unless you work in Times Square, do not live here! Your commute will be horrible. The shuttle only comes every 25 min, and is late 70% of the time. Commuting back and forth from work to dinners and nightlife becomes painful. There is NOTHING over there. It might be "up and coming" but its not anywhere close yet. Be warned. You are basically in Jersey.
Would not live here again but see why people fall into the trap, especially first time apartment shoppers in NYC. DON'T DO IT!
