I went to Waterside yesterday to look an apartment because I am just so fed up with ST. Rental Office showed me 3 One bedrooms in just one building. They were ALL renovated with stainless steel appliances. They were all available immediately, but I said my lease expires March 1, she said "no problem" if you signed today we would hold the apt till March 1st. Ok, here are the apartments.
1) On 5th floor facing North and East. Very nice view. $2,595.00 For a 2 year lease!!!!
2) On the 15th floor facing South. Nice view as well. $2,700.00
3) On the 34th floor!!!! facing North/North East. OMG!!! BREATHTAKING VIEWS of all of Manhattan from 26th street - up and Brooklyn. SICK VIEW!!! $2.895.00 ok, so the apartments are slightly smaller, and a little further from everything, but the VIEWS!!!! and the RENT!!!!!! All those prices would have locked us into a 2 year lease!!!! I am now paying $3,100 for a One Bed in Stuy Town. I just can't help but to walk right out side and be on the L Train in 2 minutes. Any advice'''

I am one of the NYU students living in Stuy Town. From what I know, all the students living in Stuy Town are graduate students on a fellowship, which means that they pay their own rents too, just like you. Mommy and daddy have nothing to do with it. Most of these -------s are young professionals and most definitely don't deserve to be called --------s, whatever the lines might stand for. And I think the simple fact that you know an NYU student lives above you is what bothers you the most.
I can also hear the people above me whenever they walk around the house or talk a bit more loud or move things around (like the chairs on the floor), not to mention the times they have people over or have a party, but I've gotten used to it, and since I can't find someone to put the blame on, like you people do with NYU student, I simply try to ignore the noise. It's just the way the building is built!! I wouldn't be so absurd as to ask my neighbors above not to do any of the things that I've mentioned, they have the right to LIVE in their apartment!! Get used to it, and stop blaming NYU students for everything. Why aren't you complaining about the heating system, or more important things? After all, what could your neighbors be doing that bothers you so much? Are you sure you're not doing it to your downstairs neighbors as well?

There is a big difference between the lifestyle college kids live and the lifestyle of an average resident. The NYU apartments are subdivided so there tends to be 3-6 students in one apartment. That apartment is going to generate a LOT more noise than an occupant of a one bedroom apartment. You can not begin to compare the noise from late night partying to someone moving a chair.

i also have experienced the noise level in our peter cooper apt. we have young professionals/students living below us and when they party on weekends our floor shakes and the noise does not allow for my husband and i and our 2 small kids to sleep...but this is just one of the many problems of stpcv...we are out of this place as soon as our lease is up. btw, we have been in sty town/peter cooper since 2005...

The main reviewer here wants the property to illegally segregate the property. My experience is that would violate Fair Housing and is an illegal practice. Living in an apartment building is a very different experience for many people new to a big city, young or old, student or professional. Being conscious of the fact that you have neighbors a mere 6 inches away from you and just being a good neighbor goes a long way. I live in a building that consists of all different types of people. My neighbors next door to me just had a new baby and she cries night and day. Should we ask that anyone with a baby be put all in the same building because I don't like it, NO! Lives change, people change, neighbors change. If you are so dissatisfied with what you have, MOVE!

Okay, lighten up a bit. You cannot compare a crying infant to a grown adult, who should know better. By the way, no one said anything about segregating the property, people are only asking that people ACTUALLY be more considerate of others living around them. And I think most people know when they are making noise that's excessive whether they're new to the city or not. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that screaming at the top of your lungs when you return home at 4:00 am may wake up your neighbors.
