I read some of the reviews, but having not had issues with my previous apartments, I ignored the comments regarding the maintenance staff. Now that I live there, I realize what a complete pain in the a$$ they are. Bob (the super) doesn't give a damn about the residents, as anytime you talk to him, he'll promise you whatever he has to get off the phone and then doesn't do a thing. If I sound disgruntaled, it's because I am - I just check out my apartment to find the work Bob promised would be done today was not done (of course). Moreover, when I went to complain, he had already left (it was 4:15 in the afternoon, and when I called at 8 AM, he hadn't arrived yet).

Unfortuntely, I like the rest of the building, otherwise, I'd be preparing to break my lease. Yes, it's older, but if the maintenance staff did half of what they said they would, it wouldn't be OK.

Overall, if I knew then, what I know now, I wouldn't live here as I know friends nearby with bigger apartments for a similar price and their maintenance staff do the work they promise.

I totally agree with you about the maintenance staff. The supervisor Bob tries to get you off the phone immediately (if you can get reach him). He has quite the job..I saw him a few times taking an ice-cream while on duty in uniform and strolling around 56th street. What is very bad is the lack of efficient service to the tenants. He acts like he owns the place and you are putting him out if you need something fixed! The whole vibe of many of the staff at Symphony house is very negative (with the exception of the few rare nice people)..however, miraculously they all seem to change right after Thanksgiving, hoping for good Christmas tips! Then after New Years, the negative ones go back to their old behavior..Its very unfortunate because the building is at a terrific location. I only wish Jack Resnick and sons would see these complaints so they can maybe make some changes over there!
