Their garage destroyed my car and refused to pay for the damage

I've had a 9 month history as a monthly customer of this garage. The prices are good, but they DON'T TAKE CARE OF YOUR VEHICLE! First, I had a Jeep in there, and they ran the battery dead a number of times by leaving the light on until I had to replace the battery. Each time the ran it dead, they charged me a $20 fee for their mistake. Then I had a Ford Explorer in there. The service was decent for a few months, until one day I picked up the car, drove out onto the street, got out and tried to open the truck. Then I noticed the back was smashed in, the backlight was ripped loose, there was a long screach across the side of the car, and once I'd opened the trunk, it wouldn't even close, because they'd smashed it up so bad. I was back in the garage not 5 minutes later, but the manager claimed that because I had driven the car out of the garage before noticing, I couldn't claim any damages. So at this point, there's $2000 damages on the car, it won't shut, so the battery's about to run dead, and when I ask to bring it a replacement car, they say I might have to pay like a daily customer, because it's the weekend, and their office that handles car changing is closed. At this point, I've had enough of these guys. I filed a police report for the damages, but I think they're right that I won't win because I didn't notice it until I left the garage. A reputable company would tell you if they smash up your car, rather then hoping you don't notice, and trying to escape responsibility legally. But this is not a reputable company, and they only have one location, so they don't have much risk of spoiling their brand name like GMC or Icon. Anyway, I hope others will take heed before entrusting their car to these lunatic cheapskates.

This review is correct about these rip off garages. I too parked my car at that Westend Garage as well as the Concerto Garage at W. 60 St. Gary, the owner and general manager of both garages is disreptuable and a scam artist known for backtiming his garage clocks to charge more money claiming that people are late in picking up their cars, and placing car leins and holding the car hostage for his monthly customers who are late with their monthly payments, plus he treats his parking staff like slaves and has them hopping about frantically parking cars. I would NEVER recommend that anyone park their car at any of Gary's Westend or Concerto garages unless you want to get ripped off!!

I am a new monthly at the west end garage at 55 west end ave. Izzy, the manager there is awful. He yelled at me in person and over the phone. It took 2 hours for him to get our car on a Friday afternoon, no joke. Awful customer service. The staff in thegarage were polite and friendly. However, when I called the office to file a complaint about him I had to ask four times for the manager's name, Gary, and I had to ask another few times before she would tell me his last name...Gary White. Anyway, I am switching garages...they are awful.

They destroyed my car door. It took forever to get my car. I think they over-book and park cars on the street. HORRIBLE PLACE! Sue the bastards if they ruined your car.

have any of you been to small claims court against them or pursued this through the dept of consumer affairs (DCA)? they too crashed my car - almost $5000 worth of damage! i'm looking for advice on what to do. the DCA claims that there have been only 2 complaints against them this year and 1 last year - not enough to make a difference. the DCA controls the garage's ability to get a license and can fine them.

Have to agree that they are terrible. Have had all the problems listed above, and then some. Our car had a recall and needed to be serviced. We initially requested to park a loaner car in place of our car, for a few days, which they agreed to. A few days turned into two weeks at the dealership, and when I went down to retrieve the loaner, I was informed they had put the car into "lockdown" and I was forced to pay $400 in CASH, plus a $250 lockdown paperwork fee if I wanted the loaner back. All this while I was lugging two kids (one 4 month old) and two car seats. Then they crashed our car into a pillar, initially filed an accident report but wouldn't give us a copy. When we called the mgmt office ask about repairs, they denied any responsibility (and the garage had conveniently "lost" the accident report). After three months of back-and-forth I finally just caved and paid the collision deductible on my own insurance to pay for repairs. During this period my husband refused to pay the monthly rental and what happens? The car goes into lockdown and we are once again forced to pay the paperwork fee to have the car released. We then tried to get out of the monthly agreement, only to be told we needed to give them 90 days notice. Fine, except then they claimed that since we were breaking our one-yr "contract" they would keep the one-month deposit we initially put down. We never signed a contract with them, but if we had, then why did they raise our fees 3 months into the agreement? Anyway, after all the time we spent dealing with these and various other issues I just can't be bothered to spend even more time trying to pursue them in small claims or through the DCA. They probably know that as well. My advice is to just avoid this place at all costs. If the above didn't scare you off, this should: the last time I parked the car there was a huge backup up the ramp. In the 15 minutes that I sat waiting, I saw a single parking attendant crash 3 cars. If nothing else, make sure to check your car before leaving the premises, keep a disposable camera in the glove compartment and take pictures of everything, b/c you might not ever see any paperwork or evidence after its been "filed".

I wish I would have seen these responses prior to going into the garage. My vehicles battery was dead 3x. It's a brand new car and it is used everyday.

The Concerto garage on 200 west 60th street has killed my battery twice.
When I thought that was bad, They suddenly had construction for 4 months and every weekend when I picked up my car it came out fresh from a dust bath. The garage office refused to pay the cleaning charges or reduce my rates. In adiditon, despite giving them 3 months notice, they have refused to refund $640 of deposits I had with them.
The case is right now with Dept of Consumer affairs and they are claiming I have never notified them.
So make sure you have the time and money to deal with them before you park there. I've moved to another garage nearby which is 30% cheaper and so much nicer to deal with and carries no deposit.
I'd say the garage owner is a professional thief.

This garage is the WORST. After damaging the rear of my car, they refused to take responsibility. To make matters worse, they refused to give back my deposit since I wanted to move the car immediately. The owner was very very rude on the phone. He is not someone you want to do business with. They can't park a car, they lie, and they cheat on top of it.

Here is my experince:
I filed with DCA in Oct 08 - they couldnt do anything since the garage refused to cooperate and showed a contract with a false signature (I had submitted it with no signature to the garage). I then went to small claims with proof of the real signature and got the damages and refund of deposit. A further motion by garage to dismiss the case was also cancelled. Small claims is very straightforward and I have posted the link below. Most contracts, I think are not valid, if they damage your car.
This Garage and its ($&@$@#%) owner should pay for damages. So here is some help:
DCA website: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dca/html/resources/forms.shtml
Small Claims court link: http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/nyc/smallclaims/general.shtml
The other good neighboring garages are Propark and Element Garage. Both have some better rates and much much better service, do not take deposit, NO CONTRACT and are pleasant to deal with. ALSO, a STRONG WORD OF ADVICE - do not sign a contract with them - they will refuse to get you out of it. THEY ARE NOT HONEST PEOPLE.

Everything that has been written about the Concerto Garage is correct. Dead batteries, vehicle damages, disreputable owner...All of these are true hazards to parking at the Concerto Garage as I know first hand as I experienced of these all first hand. I will never park my car in a garage (1) who requires a contract; (2) who refuses to answer the phone without giving out last their last names (it is a dead give away of the shadiness of organization); and most of all (3) horrible testimonials. I don't know how this garage manage to stay in business.
