Great location, but horrible service, maintenance and management

I lived in the West River House for 3 years, and that was 3 yrs too long. We moved there primarily for the convenient location, and that is the main reason we stayed so long. But I resented writing every single rent check to the management. Management is nasty and does not treat the tenants with respect (mind you, most of the tenants are professional, upper middle class, but are treated as though they are tenement dwellers). Anyone complaining is ignored and/or their lease is not renewed. Service is mediocre. Hallways are disgusting -- why did they renovate the already-decent lobby before renovating the tenement-like hallways' Unrenovated apartments are in terrible condition, with popcorn ceilings molding and little bits falling down. We were not able to get our balcony door fixed the entire time we lived there. And management charges ridiculous rents for what you get, and raise rents an obscene amount every year. Everyone I know who lived there hated the management. There are a few decent employees, but they are the exception. The few positives -- location, little noise from apartment to apartment (something I now appreciate, living in a prewar building with lots of noise up and down), and lots of families (we have a child). However, I would not recommend the apartment building to anyone.
