Definetly not as bad as people depict it to be.

I have lived in Mountainbrook for just over two months now and I have not experienced much of the negativity everyone is talking about. First off, the apartment's are one of the nicest in this entire area and the pricing is average for the area. I'm from Long Island and you couldn't get half of what you get here, for this price. The carpeting is brand new throughout, brand new hard wood floors in the kitchen and updated appliances. Yes, they did paint over the tubs and tile in the bathroom and it does chip, but it's not the end of the world. The square footage of a one bedroom is very generous, it's one of the largest apartments I've seen in this entire area and surrounding towns. I live upstairs, so there's not much noise to worry about, but the walls are thin, as are any apartment buildings. So far, the maintenance men have been very helpful and respond within one or two days to most problems. Also, something I've noticed is people are saying that the maintenance men come into their apartment when they're not there. WELL geniuses, that's a clause that you can either agree to or not when you start a new leasing period. We were asked if we would permit them to enter when we were not home and we said no. So, you may have to address that with Management. Also, the management has been very helpful from the start, even if you're credit isn't great they will work with you to get you an apartment. We've had no heat or hot water issues so far either. Also, the gym facility is decent. Their weight machine is broken, but they do have 2 treadmills, two elypticals and two stationary bikes. The parking is pretty good too, occasionally people will park by your building and walk to theirs, but it's not so bad. Although we've only been here a short time, overall Mountain Brook is a great place to live. I looked at 6 other apartment rentals in the area before deciding on this one and it definetly has the most to offer at a reasonable price. When I read the other reviews, I wondered if the people who wrote them were living in the same Apartment complex as me, because most of them are totally off.
