Lived here for three years

A few incidents to pinpoint in the three years my girlfriend and I lived here. All 100% true:

#1. I noticed our lights dimming intermittently every so often. I checked the fuse box, and could clearly see electrical current arching inside the fuse box. I called maintenance (on a Friday) and they looked at it. Apparently this live electricity running in our walls had to wait until after the weekend to be fixed.

#2. One of our neighbors had a teenage girl, who in turn had her friends over all the time. They would sit on our front stoop and lean against our front door. They would eat food, then leave the wrappers on the ground and in the bushes. I banged on my door to get them to get away from our door, and they banged right back. They only stopped when I threatened to call the police. After that, they started to throw their football in the parking lot, and it got stuck on our balcony "by mistake." After I initially refused to give it back, I gave it back when one of the kids threatened me, "I have a bad anger problem, and I'm starting to get really mad." I didn't want to get stabbed or punched.

3. One night around 10:30PM, we heard the 3 adult tenants below us clearly start to panic. We went onto our balcony, and they were all yelling and shouting (different language). They had their front door open, and an EXTREME amount of heat was coming from their apartment. So we called the rental office and told them that they should send someone over to check it out, because they were about to burn the apartment down. After 15 minutes, no one came. No one called. So we called the fire department. They sent a squad car, and after talking to the lower neighbors, the fireman relayed to us that they were cooking with grease and "it got out of hand" (translated: grease fire).

4. About a week before we moved, I noticed a lot of constant banging one night. At 1:45AM, I looked out my back window and saw three cops, as well as a police dog searching the back of our building. I don't know who they were looking for, but cops had our building surrounded. They were in the woods, in the next door neighbor's yard. When they left, I saw ten cop cars pull out of the complex. Safe'

Some general problems:

-Rude tenants with no regard let their dogs bark for hours on end without trying to keep them quiet.

-Management is rude and threatening. One letter literally said "Pick up after your dog. If you think we are joking, then you better think again." This letter went to every tenant.

-Laundry facilities were terrible. Most of the time, half the washers/dryers were out of order. We started taking our laundry off site.

-Kids play in the parking lot/around the cars without regard.

-The apartments are poorly constructed. Every sound, but more importantly every SMELL from the apartment below us came into our apartment literally every single night. This proves difficult to deal with when the tenants below cook something that is not too pleasant. This is what ultimately drove us to move out of here.

To the point: Initially, I thought that Deer Valley would be a nice place to live. Soon after getting here though, I found this wasn't the case. It's clear that the landlord doesn't care about the tenants or their safety. In the end, I just felt like I was paying way too much for way too little. And I was beginning to feel very unsafe there. But thank God, they got a camera to watch the pool at night, so they can see if people go in the pool after hours. Now I feel safe.

This guy him self says he has issues. So y should I think it's so bad. the laundry room is provided for the tennants and I feel we are all adults. If it dirty it's because tennant don't clean up after them selves. If your having problems with kids, Go to there parents. Don't blame it on Deervalley for the way people raise there kids.

I lived in Deer Valley for a few years, and only because I had a dog. If you have a dog, and want to rent an apartment there aren't many other options. I 100% agree with the above review. I can not tell you how many issues we had with this place. It is turning into such a slum. There are some nice people that live there, but the majority these days seem to be no good. Back in 2006 we changed buildings to get away from rude, loud, gang like neighbors. The rental office PROMISED our new neighbors were nice, quiet people, and this new apartment would be much better. Well they lied. The new apartment was even worse. There were four adult men living in a 1 bedroom apartment. One guy was even using the closet under our stairs as his bedroom. They were awake and VERY loud at all hours of the night. The ethnic food they cooked smelled god awful, and it wafted up into our apartment every night. We had candles burning in every room, no matter what we did nothing masked the smell. Our dog even smelled like their spices. Then there's the kids. They roam free like little hellions and nobody seems to care. They play baseball in the parking lots and use cars as bases, ride their bikes in the middle of the road and lay on the hoods of other tenants cars. The rental office sent out a threatening letter warning parents to keep their kids out of the road and parking lots, but of course that was ignored. If these parents ignore the rental office and are too lazy and careless to monitor their children, what makes you think they would listen to another tenant? I could go on all day with complaints about this place. But thank god, I just moved out. Now I have an apartment I enjoy living in, and can look forward to going home and relaxing after work.

Please quote from the above review where I wrote that I have issues. 1 - I have no control over what the other tenants do in the laundry room of the apartment complex that I rent from. If you are going to offer a service to your tenants, you should be prepared to maintain said service. And the problem wasn't the tenants not cleaning after themselves. It was the washers that leaked all over the floor whenever they would be used. It was dryers that had no hot air blowing into them, so you would be paying basically to have your wet clothes tumble around for an hour. It's not the tenants job to fix washers and dryers. 2 - The kid who threatened me was not a tenant there. He was "visiting" the girl downstairs from us who lived with her mother. The mother was not home most of the time, and probably had no idea that her daughter was hanging out with such riff raff. It is not my job to play security. I was also not the only one that had problems with these kids. 3 - What about the other issues written in this review? Would anyone feel safe in an apartment that could have burned down (twice), or one surrounded by police at 2AM? Would you want to pull into a parking lot and run over a little kid darting in between cars? If your answer is yes, then I'm not the one with issues here.
