I've lived here for about six months and the place is not bad. I have a terrible neighbor upstairs who get drunk at screams at his girlfriend every night at 3am, but that's not really the fault of the complex, now is it' I already pay over $1700 a month for a one bedroom apartment PLUS pet rent, so do I really want Avalon Commons to raise the prices to keep out the riffraff' The crazy people above me would stay and get one more roommate so that would make things worse. I did finally call the cops and the neighbors have quieted down a bit now. I am annoyed at the non-refundable pet deposit (I think it was $500). How can you call that a deposit when I don't get it back' I've had a few maintenance problems but the guys have been very timely and extremely pleasant. I also find the office staff to be very nice. Smithtown is one of the nicest cities on the Island and it's very safe. I have heard of no crime at all since I have been here. There is always parking available and the few neighbors I have met have been very friendly. One thing I noticed since I moved here from Los Angeles is that I had to live in a huge complex like this to get even 1/3 of the space I had in California. So I like the storage, walk in closet, washer/dryer, and fireplace. I don't like the price of the rent but, hey, my furniture wouldn't even fit in any other place I looked at on Long Island!
