The neighborhood is very dangerous at night. There were 2 murders within a 10 block radius during the time I lived there. More than once, police cars came down my street sweeping the neighborhood with a spotlight. I found parking to be difficult in a first-come first-serve lot that is often full. The apartment I rented was small, but seemed appropriately priced since it was near the university. This however, was offset by the heat bills and occasional parking tickets when the parking lot was full.



There was a police station down the street, but it closed at 6PM, which might explain why at night, about every 15-30 minutes someone walks by with a stereo turned up as loud as possible.



Every time I had a problem with the apartment, the management company/landlord insisted that the problem was being fixed, but it always took more than a week and in some cases more than a month. One time I found after talking to the third party repairman, that the landlord blatently lied to me about the time involved in the repair. In one case, my hot water was out for an entire week. More than once I woke up to my door being unlocked by a repair-man who appartly didn't feel the need to knock or ring the doorbell. The worste part was the repair itself. Though, they usually accomplished their purpose, cosmetically they were a disaster - not to mention the mess that they would leave me to clean.



Some things were never fixed however. The dryer in the basement would almost never accept coins. So after washing, often times the only choice was to bag up the wet clothes and take them to the laundromat for drying.



I think that these apartments are used to dealing with students who either don't know what to expect, or who don't expect very much. I would avoid them at all costs!
