I lived in a university hill apartment on the corner of Euclid and Landcaster for one year during college at Syracuse University. It was a two bedroom, but the room that my roomate lived in was hardly big enough to be called a closet. There was a twin bed against the wall and a two foot aisle next to it, so the room was about 6 feet wide, which is against building code. The "galley" kitchen was a joke. The aisle was so narrow that you could not open the refrigerator or dishwasher all the way. Have you ever tried to load the bottom shelf of a dishwasher with the door not open all the way' It's a nightmare. The "rustic" wood plank flooring would give you splinters if you walked barefoot. The bathroom drains were clogged all the time, and maintenance would say they were cleared out, but they weren't. The bathroom was truly disgusting and unsanitary no matter how much I cleaned it, and the plumbing smelled terrible. The outside steps were so icy all the time that you risked a fall every day during the winter. The only time they did anything was after my father took a nasty fall and I threatened to contact a lawyer. The washer/dryer in the basement were creepy and covered with spiders and other bugs, and several times, there was a bat flying around the basement. I reported the bat, and management said they took care of it...a day later there was a bat flying around in my apartment (hmm...I wonder where it came from). My roomate called me hysterical, and I called management. After three hours of the bat circling my apartment and no maintenance guys yet, I caught the darn thing myself with a broom and laundry basket, and let it go outside. The management is terrible to deal with as a student. They knew in advance that I would pay rent 100% when student loans came in and it was a clause in my rental agreement, but then the landloard served me several notices that if I did not pay my rent, he would evict me even though loans had not come in yet. Parking was a pain since they had a small lot for permit parking only for the ten apartments in my building (mostly studio apartments) but it was always full so we had to park on the street, and had to move our car to the other side of the road every evening at 6 or risk a parking ticket, which was such a pain since it interfered with my class schedule. The building was totally against building code. Reading other reviews, I guess as an adult, renting from these people would be ok, but as a student I cannot imagine a company taking more advantage of their renters. The guy downstairs from me (I was on the top floor) would play his TV and stereo so loud that my dishes would shake, and I couldn't hear my own tv. I would bang on the floor with all my might and after 5 or 10 minutes of banging, he may consider turning stuff down. Usually banging wasn't enough...I had to pick up the end of my couch and drop it on the floor. I reported him repeatedly to management, and they did nothing. The noise outside all night long was rediculous living at a streetlight off Euclid. The light would change and cars would slam on the gas, peeling off like crazy at all hours of the night. People would talk and scream on the street, and every word was audible in my third floor apartment. Honestly, I cannot think of one good thing to say about my apartment or the management company. Whe moved out, they charged us for tons of stuff in the apartment, most of which was broken well before we moved in and was listed on our move-in paperwork, including the front door not locking properly for the entire year we lived there.
