Campus Habitat formerly Horizon Terrace Apartments
< Prev Review | >
Let's start my experience from start to finish.
Two years ago, a bunch of friends and myself traveled to Campus Habitat (then known as Troy Student Housing) to look into an apartment. We toured an 8-bedroom apartment, which was in pretty rough shape due to its age. They then brought us back to the office, and showed us pictures of their other renovations, and told us that our apartment would look like that. I immediately brought up my concerns regarding construction quality, and they ensured me that they were here for the long haul, and were going to put a lot of effort into construction, as they wanted their buildings to last. We signed the lease, were delayed moving in until 20 days after our lease start, and when we arrived, we were absolutely devastated.
They didn't do anything to the outside of the apartment. Some of the floors were still rotting away. The heating system on the second floor didn't work, and took them over a year to fix. The walls were paper thin, and you could hear a pin drop in the next room over. They took the bedrooms and split them down to below their legal size. The bedroom I was living in had a door to the patio, that was nailed and caulked shut because the balcony and porch was unsafe to walk on. There was no opening window (another violation of code). Not to mention, the construction people left the place a complete mess.
I stayed there for two years, through ignored repair requests and broken promises. Finally, after the threat of legal action and two changes in management, they solved some of our problems. I moved out of that apartment, and since management seemed like they had a handle on things, rented another apartment from them. It ended up being one of the biggest mistakes I have made.
My current apartment has no deadbolt on one of the doors (it can just be pushed open), and the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room are all on one single circuit. We can only run one appliance at a time. If we run the microwave and the toaster, it will blow a fuse. The floors are extremely old, and I feel like I'm going to fall through them. The lighting fixtures feel like they're going to fall down from the ceiling at any moment. Management has ignored my repeated request to take a look at these problems.
As soon as I moved in, my next door neighbor complained about the state that Campus Habitat left the apartment in. The lawn wasn't mowed, and the place was a huge mess. We both agreed that Campus Habitat was terrible.
My final word of advice to you, stay away from these people. They will promise you the world to get you to sign an overpriced lease. Take a close look at their construction, it's terrible. Their repair people are rude, and their management is incompetent. I urge you to stay away!!! There are tons of truly decent landlords in Troy who will treat you right, and most of them have cheaper leases!!
