I can not stress to the reader enough to stay away from this place no matter what! This is at best, a cheaply constructed complex, poorly managed, and just looking to maximize profits while leaving you out in the cold, literally.
Let's review, shall we'
Parking: This by far, is the biggest problem here as there is not nearly enough parking for tenants, let alone visitors of said tenants. The spaces are extremely narrow, and will result in several dents and gashes on your car doors, so if you have a nice car, don't even bother. Cops like to drive through the complex and ticket people as well for phantom handicap spaces. Your alternative is to request a garage for additional rent, but they're horrible! The openings are extremely narrow and allow for zero error, there's strange stains on the walls, the door opener constantly malfunctions and will take months to fix, and you may not even get assigned a garage anywhere near your unit!
Also worth mentioning, The Green Island Police love to set up DWI check points right in front of the entrance to the complex. Because this is on a bridge, and there is only one entrance to the complex, expect delays some nights when trying to get home, as the line can get rather long due to the bars located close by.
Noise: The walls are paper thin, so you're going to hear your neighbors!
Grounds:While the grounds are relatively well maintained by the staff, be aware that when you're this close to the Hudson River the place is pretty much a giant spider web during the summer to which maintenance is very slow to deal with. Seriously, it looks like the end of the movie Arachnophobia! These suckers are HUGE! I swear one tapped me on the shoulder and asked for my lunch money.
Safety: The grounds are fairly well lit, but due to lack of parking, you may have to walk a great distance, and there are some very dark spots. Women will have trouble with this, especially visitors coming to see you.
Construction: It's a joke. they literally cut every corner in the build process. While the apartments are spacious, this works to your disadvantage when you have a giant master bedroom and only one tiny vent pumping in heat/cold air. The air system is extremely noisy and is extremely distracting when you're trying to watch TV in the living room. The wiring is cheap and shoddy, and you will lose power often. The free internet is not secure, and fails constantly. It's not reliable at all. The carpets are so cheap that a decent vacuum cleaner will tear them apart (and in turn, ruin your vacuum) Not to mention the sliding doors & screens are all warped due to the building settling. Also, do not, under any circumstances, drink the tap water without filtering it first. This is especially irksome if you have small children and or pets. Not to mention the showers have enough water pressure to equate to someone peeing on you.
Maintenance: it's a mixed bag. There some really great people that work in maintenance, and there's some with serious personality problems. Some requests were addressed immediately, while others were completely ignored, even after several requests!
Staff: Let me be blunt, the managers office does not care about you. Especially the woman that runs the place. She is crass, rude, inappropriate, unhelpful, and completely clueless. If she doesn't know the answer, she'll make up something asinine instead of saying "I don't know", looking it up, and getting back to you with the correct answer. Don't try to use logic, it'll only confuse her. I recommend buying stock in Advil if you have to deal with her.
It should also be noted that on move out, they were extremely picky about damages, and will try to charge you $150 FOR A $20 mini-blind from Wal-Mart. (What' you didn't think they used quality materials here did you') My place was spotless on leaving, so that really ticked me off. To add insult to injury, it's been over two months since I have left and I still have not received my security deposit back, or any explanation as to why! This is against NY State law, and after several attempts to get answers, I'm now being forced to take legal action (great...)
Overall I can't recommend this place to anyone! It'll fill your life with unnecessary grief if you chose to reside there, and they nickel and dime you for everything. While a number of complexes in the area have reduced their rates in the past few years, this one continues to increase prices while giving you less and less each year. There's much better values out there. Both my former roommate and I are each renting larger places on our own now, and paying far less. Do yourself a favor, and keep looking elsewhere!
