Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2009
I have to agree with the prior reviewer. The grounds at all the complexes of the Apartments at Brunswick are beautiful and safe. The area is great, all 3 complexes are near major stores such at the grocery store and Wal-mart. The office staff is helpful and friendly. The maintenance men do what they can with the apartments and respond very quickly to calls, at all hours of the day and night. The apartments are good sized and there is a lot of closet space as well as parking. Mailboxes are private and locked wich is nice. Now lets discuss the not so great things. The laundry rooms are frequently dirty, your rent WILL go up every year, you will be asked to move your car during severe blizzards so they can plow the parking spaces. Now the more serious things: they used to have a 20 pound and under dog policy, now they are letting much larger dogs in and on any floor. God help you if a boxer moves in above you. Which leads to the next issue, the cheap construction. You will hear everything the neighbor above you does, and let me say, I mean EVEYTHING. (YES THAT) Vaccumming, showering, getting in and out of bed, their dog/kids running around, tv and stereo noise, you get the idea. If you call and complain, not much will be done. They may even tell you wait til 10pm or call the state police. Nice thing to deal with after a hard day at a busy job. Also the quality of tenants has really gone down. The older responsible people that actually cared for the place are leaving in droves. They are moving in younger, wild, noisy, college age people that have no respect for their neighbors and even themselves for that matter. They must be very desperate to collect rent as the prior office management did not rent to that element. What little screening they do is not enough, but what do they care as they do not have to live here. Also, yes there's more, if you are allergic to mold, do not take a ground level. You WILL have mold on the walls that are below the foundation. Nothing is done about this and they do cover ups between tenants to conceal it. After a year or so, you'll see it. They must be threatened with legal action to remedy it. Lastly, the heat is electric in most buildings. You have 2 choices: turn it on and pay a very large electric bill OR use is mininally and wear many layers of clothes and have many blankets on the bed. Sucks for those with kids. In the summer, plan on living in an oven on the 2nd & 3rd floors. My advice, get a mortgage, rent to own, or rent from a private landlord, otherwise, you will deal with these issues in some form or another.
