Rent is Too High for the Services You Receive

I've lived in Oakmonte now for almost two years and not because I love this place but because I hate moving. But, after my experiences this winter, I will definately move! The apartment itself is okay; it is nice to have a washer/dryer and a garage but the living room and kitchen are a little on the small side. There hasn't been that much snow this year but management is very bad at salting/plowing the driveways and roads. For example, this morning everything in the complex was covered with a couple inches of snow but ALL the other roads (i.e. main roads and private roads belonging to housing subdivisions) around here were cleared with no snow whatsoever---just not the internal Oakmonte roads. I think the reason service lacks is because many of the apartments are vacant so the company has less money to spend on offering services to current residents. Also, last week I put in a maintanence request and it took them four days to send someone over. From the other reviews, I think I should feel fortunate anyone came at all. From what I hear from other people, Webster Green is better maintained and Oakmonte is losing a lot of potential residents to them.

My best advice to you is that not everyone is required to post a review so this means the reviews are skewed--either toward favorable reviews or unfavorable reviews. In my opinion, it is a lot more likely that someone would write an unhappy review than a glowing one...only because of the effort it takes to find a review website and then post! I am still not happy with my Oakmonte stay and I still believe this place is way way over priced. It could be that people who live at Webster Green are more inclined to write reviews and not that the apartments are worse. And no one traces these reviews so some of the positive ones could come from people who work at the apartment complexes. We move in November and I'll post again about whether or not we will get our security deposit back. Ask the management company for the list of what they charge if they determine something (e.g. microwave) isn't clean when you move out. The prices are outrageous! And we have a cleaning woman who comes in to clean twice a month and will do a special move-out cleaning for us so I can guarantee our place will be spotless.

It's been over 9 weeks and I am still waiting for my security deposit! I lived there (1 person, no pets) for almost 7 years, never being even 1 day late for rent. I keep getting the runaround from apartment management. Kelly answers the phone and is pleasant enough, but is basically Debbie's gatekeeper, who does not return calls when I asked to speak with DEBBIE! Was told she put a stop-payment on check that was supposedly mailed weeks ago, which I do not believe for one second! A person who used to work at the complex told me that he/she had no respect for the owner, which tells you a lot right there. Since 2002 services and amenities disappeared. Garbage, cable, and water used to be included in the rent, but now billed through 3rd parties, which adds another $100 to monthly expense. Pool often closed, "office area" with copier/fax taken away, and general level of service diminished. The appliances are basic and the UNSANDED, rough baseboards are painted with flat WALL paint, making them impossible to keep clean.
