It's Been Frustrating...but From Where I Came From...

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I've lived in a studio apartment in NYC for almost 8 years, so when I moved into this building a year ago, it was an oasis. Wall to wall carpeting. Parking. Nice fixtures. After hearing every sneeze, yawn and footstep of my former NYC next door neighbor, the quiet of my One City Place Apartment has been a dream. I'm on the upper floor on the side of the building where Manhattan is in view. I can see the hills beyond the Hudson. I can see the stars at night and the sunset at the end of day. I love these things. I didn't have this in NYC.
However. My complaint has to be with managment. I knew it from the moment I moved in - or tried to move in. My movers were late, and I miss my scheduled loading dock/elevator block of time. Management would not budge in letting my movers continue unloading the truck, so they sent them away at 6pm and rescheduled them 3 days later to complete the move. This cost me extra money. I do blame my movers, but management did nothing to accommodate me. In fact, they were quite indifferent about the issue. Moving is stressful enough. They didn t help matters.
As for move in quality: My dishwasher wasn't bolted to the counter, so it almost tipped over. One of my drawers wasn't put together correctly. A previous tenant (who must have lived there briefly - and must have smoked)dumped cigarette ash on the carpet and a shadow of the spill remained upon move in. When I addressed this with the young 20-something manager who did my move in inspection - he said that he'd have someone by that day to fix this. That person never came. I called maintenance a few days later to find that no one had made an appointment from management for a repairman.
Another problem is the resident garage exit which is parallel to the commercial/mall garage exit. When the light turns green you run the risk of crashing into the cars exiting the mall, or running over a shopper while you exit on to main street, so you are forced to go to N. Broadway when you want to go straight to Hamilton. V. frustrating.
All the in-house issues have been resolved, and I live there content for now. The noise - again - isn't bad - but now an annoying humming noise periodically happens at night and during the day. It sounds as if it's the vents from the mall - not construction - and only started happening in December. I don't know who to talk to since management will do nothing, and the concierges are nice, but clueless on such these things. (And yes - I've gone down to pick up a package only to find no one at the desk).
And by the way in reference to a previous tenant who posted here Heather Moorer the property manager who took over several months ago and knows what she s doing , is already gone.
It depends on what your tolerance level is regarding the quality of living in such a place. After what I dealt with in NYC - this is still much better, and less expensive.
