Despite reviews, I enjoyed two apartments in the 77 Bldg

Despite the plethora of slamming user reviews, I lived at Fir Hill for 2.5 yrs in 2 separate apartments in the 77 building and always had a good experience.
First, I was in a studio and I found the layout to be wonderful although the carpet was awful. It was the first apartment I had ever rented and didn't realize you can always get new carpet. So do that.
Second, I had a one bedroom and ditto, good experience. (and nice carpet)
Parking is atrocious. Do not park your car outside, big mistake. I have seen several cars vandalized, windows smashed, and I myself had a car stolen from there on July 4th, 2004. The garage parking facilities are wonderful (although expensive) and even though they claim to have security cameras in the parking lots they don't see anything (I saw the tape for when my car was stolen).
The maintenance guys were all prompt and nice that I encountered. I had a problem with a refrigerator and they replaced it within two days bringing me an already chilled unit to switch my stuff to.
The office staff was always very nice to me and made sure that all my problems were resolved. A lot of people have reviewed saying the staff was not necessarily friendly but I never encountered that. (I am something of a model tenant, however, and maybe they just liked me?)
One problem I experienced in my second unit, on the 2nd floor of 77 building, was noise. We had some noisy neighbors which bothered my wife but I am a pretty sound sleeper and that aspect didn't bother me although I could tell they were loud.
The location is clearly what makes this place so frequented with tenants and it is certainly as close to U Akron as possible. Unfortunately, do to its proximity, it has an inflated opinion of itself and they have high prices. Very high.
Bottom line= I would recommend Fir Hill if you pay for a parking spot in the garage. If not, stay the heck away.
