i lived in timber top for one year, and i think your opinion depends on who your neighbors are. yes, the wall are too thin, but that is like that in all of the apartments. i didn't have any real complaints, not even with the landlords. i felt safe, but maybe i wasn't aware of what it was really like. i did hear gunshots a few times, which isn't good. my car was never broken into, but i did take the cd face off each night. it was too hard to get air moving through the place, which sucked. my main complaint was hearing my neighbors yelling and stuff, and not being able to play music loud, which i do. i will say that out of our $675 security deposit, we got $605 back, which was nice. i wouldn't move back though, but i didn't have a hellish experience like some people here.
