I lived at Andover Court from 2001-2003 when I was in grad school at OU. Finding an apartment in Athens can be a challenge for a new student...and I realized I had waited way too long to find a place to live. I had few choices....and Andover Court seemed like the best I was going to get. I paid $459/month for a one bedroom.

When I first moved in, my entire apartment smelled like cat urine and I found cat toys in the closet. I reported this to the property manager and she had the carpet deep steam cleaned. This did not take care of the smell however. I again reported it and she called the owner of the building who personally inspected it herself. The owner claimed she has a "great nose" and said she didn't smell anything.
When all was said and done, new carpet was finally put in the apartment after about a week and a half after my pet allergies and asthma made it unbearable for me to live there and I said I would have to leave because of medical reasons.

They are very dark apartments and dated from the 70s. My kitchen was from the 70s complete with harvest gold stove. When I cooked a roast chicken, the stove was so small and exhaust so bad that everything in the apartment smelled like chicken.

The first year I lived there things were quiet. The second year, a large group of loud people moved in to the studio apartment next to me. They would play very loud ethnic mexican music at night constantly, would not answer their door when I would knock to ask them to turn it down...I even had to call the police once to get them to turn it down. Horrible horrible people. I never reported it to the management, I should have.

These apartment have an isolated feeling. I didn't like them because I wanted to be living in the middle of everything....and I waited too long to find a place to live when I went to grad school..and there wasn't much left to choose from.

Perks:

Nice landscaping.

Five minute drive to OU campus.

Candy the property manager is very nice and helpful.

Drawbacks: Can't walk or bike anywhere unless you want to walk down major highway...which is probably illegal.

No washer/dryer hook ups in the studio or one bedroom apartments

Thin walls with the potential for noise.

Apartments are very dated in appearance.

Isolated feeling. Maybe you like that...I don't.

Poor heating and cooling. I had hot water for about 3 minutes when I showered. There were no heating vents or central air...just a window type heating and cooling unit in the front room.

I wasn't happy living there.....but you might like it. Candy the property manager is so nice that I hate to give it a bad review...but it was easily the worst apartment I've ever lived in.
