Riverpark Towers in Athens, OH is the worst place ever to live. It is ghetto with premium rent in a small college town. I'm paying $630 for a one bedroom. When I moved in September of last year I didn't even need the key they gave me - the door was wide open. There was drywall everywhere and it looked like a picture from the bombing in Serbia-Herzegovina only the walls weren't necessarily crumbling and there wasn't blood and limbs spatted everywhere, however the bathroom had the ceiling fallen down and the innards of the building showing with a regular leak that left the bathroom saturated and enabled - hazardous the lungs - black mold to grow not to mention possible contact with asbestos, which by the way you must sign a waiver upon signing a lease that you're aware of the possibility that you might at some point be exposed to asbestos. I didn't have air conditioning for almost a week this past summer when it was 101 degrees outside. It took them over 4-days to acknowledge my maintenance request and two more days to fix it. My heater is now currently non-functional so I'm going to have to let them know that it needs to be fixed before it is freezing outside. This will likely result in my air conditioning becoming non-functional so we'll see come spring. The carpet is very unhomely and quite practical. It is the type you'd see in a recreation center. Mine carpet is brown and burns really easy if there is an ash falls when smoking a J. The walls are poorly done and only painted with primer. The drywall filler is still visible in some areas. The kitchen lacks a garbage disposal or dishwasher and there is no washer and dryer hook-ups and the washer and dryer near my apartment has been out of service for almost 4-months. This includes the pop machine on the bottom floor of Building #33, as well. You must pay $200-per-year for a parking spot and if you park in the wrong spot even just once - as was my case - you will be towed at your own expense. I was two spots over from my spot and it was only my second day parking there. If there are repairs they will only be done some of the time. Often times, the maintenance people will blame you or the management of the apartments will blame you for whatever is wrong. This past summer there was 4 months of constant banging in building 33 and mexican workers everywhere. They worked at all hours whether it be 8 o' clock at night or 8 o'clock in the morning! Boom, boom, boom! The sliding doors on my closet are always coming down and near the foyer of my apartment that closet door won't even stay on and has to be stored obscurely in the kitchen. There was a regular leak in my bathroom where the ceiling had since fallen down twice (it is working on a third time now) everytime the tenant above would take a shower. I hope he never pees in the shower! There are always loud parties and stomping from above and there are pot dealers everywhere. The management is barely friendly and they could care less whether you stay or go. They take advantage of the fact that there is limited housing in Athens so they only do the bare minimum of what they have to do to keep their jobs. I would highly recommend seeking somewhere other than Riverpark Towers to make your college home.
