OK if you like the Greene

I've lived here for about a year. I have a 1 bedroom apt that I pay $559 a month for. It's worth about $510-525, but I was willing to overpay because I have a view of The Greene and the floor plan was roomy.
The appliances are all woefully out of date - which, again, I knew when I moved in. My dishwasher is on its last legs and I've had to call maintenance three times to look at it. It needs to be replaced, but it's still functional, so here it sits. I've also called several times about the water heater, which never seems to have enough hot water for more than a 15 min shower.
I've also had my fair share of noisy neighbors. My floor is populated with quiet young professionals like me, but the floor below has gone through a string of folks: pot smokers, rowdy kids who I swear were still in high school and had parties on Sunday nights until 4am (yes, 4am, and not just once), and folks whose music is so loud I can hear it through the floor and every time I open my front door.
Mostly, these folks are gone within a few months, but it means that life is rather annoying for a few months.
That said, maintenance is always here within an hour for an emergency (I had a toilet that wouldn't flush on a Sat. night, and someone arrived within an hour), and within a day or two for regular maintenance. The staff is friendly and professional.
I'm a good tenant. Quiet, clean young professional who always pays the rent on time. So I had to laugh after this month's apartment inspection when they tried to raise my rent to $599. They said they were now offering one bedrooms here for $615. Seriously' HAha ahahahHAA haha. I could live at The Greene, in an all new construction, with a working dishwasher, energy efficient appliances, and a decent water heater for less than $700. Why would I pay $600 to live in this place'
No utilities are included in the price, and again - old place with poor insulation - I pay $50 a month in water/sewer/trash and $98 a month in heat (that's with it turned down to 50 all night and all day while I'm at work)during the winter. I'm *already* paying $700 a month for this place. I'm not paying more rent.
A little haggling brought them back down to my original rate (again, I'm a good tenant), but after looking at other apartments available in the area, I've decided to pass on renewing this year. It's not a bad apartment complex. The grounds are great, and it's a great location, but it's overpriced in a silly way. I realize they're trying to keep out rowdier tenants with the high prices, but you shouldn't be squeezing out your good ones by increasing their rent. If anything, they should have lowered my rate to $529, not threatened to raise it.
If you're looking for a place near the Greene and you can get a good deal (and there are some good deals when apartments are just sitting open), it's worth it for a year. After that, go buy a condo at The Greene. It'll be cheaper in the long run, and you'll have better appliances and lower heating bills!

I agree with all of your comments, including starting at 525 (1bdrm), being bumped to 559, and recently be asked to re-sign my lease for 599. I also like you have never been late with a rent check, and passed on the recent offering. I also have had a dishwasher problem that didn't get fixed to my satisfaction, so far no problems with the hot water heater.
The 45-60$ Water/Sewer/Trash/CommunityElectric/ManagementFee is rediculous compared to other places, whom when I call are 15-30$.
It turns out if you check up on the 3rd Party Billing company, or just send them an email and have it bounce back, you will notice that the company that owns these apartments, also owns this 3rd party billing company. It's a bit indecent, since they charge a 6$ management fee, which isn't competitive with my previous one at a different apartment; but this billing company doesn't have to worry about having the contract shopped around due to the close relationship, so how do you keep them honest.
I've will be moving far enough away, that my new place doesn't compete directly with this place, so keep that in mind; but all utilites are paid and i'm getting a two-bedroom for less than either of the 3 rents I paid here. I will miss, being walking distance from the Greene.

These comments are very helpful. It seems this apartment complex is very unprofessional. I can't believe they would try to increase your rent during your lease. And, the dog poo! Gross! Unbelievable. I was seriously thinking of moving myself and my son here because it is so close to the Green. Thank God I read these 22(!) reviews. Thank you for posting.
