I lived in Columbus Park for 3.5 years. It was my first apartment so when I initially moved in, I was happy. It was a place I could call my own. However, I quickly saw what a crappy and terrible place this is to live.
All the reviews you have read about bad azz kids everywhere are true! They run up and down the halls at all hours of the night, hang out in the lobby destroying stuff...it's terrible! My boyfriend's car got broken into and they stole everything including his asthma machine. I wonder who did that'!
The hallways are disgusting (garbage, discarded mail, old food, urine). There have been a number of times where the underground pipe has leaked causing the hallway carpeting to become soaked. Was it ever replaced' Nope. I can't imagine what type of nastiness is growing under there. They have their "cleaning" crews vaccuum and mop the hallways daily. But how does dirty water clean a floor'! I have actually seen a cleaning woman mopping the floors with BLACK water!
Maintenance and management were terrible!!!! When the lady across the hall from me clogged her garbage disposal, everything backed up in my kitchen sink. My entire sink filled with sewage and who knows what else...running all over the counters and into the drawers below the sink. I woke up in the morning to my kitchen looking like a swamp. Filthy sewage was all over the floor, running onto my living room carpet. I called the leasing office and told them what happened. The maintenance man decided to use my paper towels and my dishwashing liquid to clean up the mess!!! He didn't even do a good job! He didn't get the nasty water out of the drawers. One drawer that I didn't use so often was so gross that when I did go to get something out of it, everything in it was soaked and there was mold starting to grow. I had to throw away all my utensils and all my pots and pans. They were all ruined! When I called to tell the leasing office that I had mold growing in my drawers and mold growing along the living room window (a whole other problem) they told ME to clean it with Clorox Clean-Up! Helloooo, this is black mold! Shouldn't a professional come here and clean it'! It was at that point that I knew it was time for me to move OUT!
I went month-to-month while looking for another place to live. Every month they increased the fee for a month-to-month lease by $50 while also adding on other fees (designed to get you to sign another lease). The last month I lived there (June 2007) I had to pay almost $700 for a tiny, one-bedroom apartment!!!!! When I called to complain, they told me those were the rules under the new management.
Speaking of the new management, they suck! This guy or whoever is calling himself doing million dollar renovations but the apartments look like crap! The trim in the hallways are painted black, along with the doors, making the halls look dark and dim. The balconies on the outside are painted yellow with black triangles. WTF' It looks like something out of a bad 70's dream! Meanwhile he's flying into the complex in his helicopter!
I know this review is long but I really want to warn people about this place. Yes, they are cheap (as long as you're not month-to-month) but living here is really not worth the headache. I seriously think they need to tear down this entire complex and start over. Renters BEWARE!

Oh my goodness!! I moved from there in October of 06 when the new management company was just settling in so I know exactly what you are talking about. It's a shame because when I first moved there in 2000 everything was just fine! They should have just kept the last management company in my opinion. I saw the horrendous yellow balconies before they got to my building and I was wondering WTH was going on. Whose idea was that?!?!!?!?! I honestly did not see where a million dollars in renovations came in and of course they have to make that money back by raising the rent. A couple of my old neighbors are probably gone by now because they weren't happy with the changes either. It's too bad because Bedford is such a great community but I do believe renters are entitled to comfortable living quarters and if they don't do something about it soon, they won't have too many people wanting to rent from them. They do need to tear the whole complex down and start over. I agree 100% with that.

Ditto...everything the two posters above wrote is true, true, and true!

In reading the thoughts of the two posters, I agree with what they are saying. The hallways are dark, and light bulbs are constantly burning out. Kids are always in the hallways, and the front lobbies do not look inviting at all. I moved in the apartment because of the central air 2 years ago, and the place looks disgusting more and more. Then the elevators do not work all of the time, and the quick fix jobs that they do around the place is terrible. And then they are towing cars, making up reasons. With the flashlight security company they have, they are just trying to find ways to steal money from their tenants. WTF! You should NOT move into this place at all.

I would have to agree with what the other posters have written but only to a certain extent. i would not recommend anybody to rent there, but my building wasn't all that bad. it was quiet for the most part with the exception of smelling weed as soon as you step out in the hallway and not throwing rock salt in the winter and not removing snow by the time most people have to go to work in the morning. but i guess you would get those results when there are only 2 maintenance men to manage 5 buildings because they have fired everyone else. if i had somewhere else to go i would go and i wouldn't have ever renewed my lease. Thank God i haven't had the problems that were mentioned above but when i leave theres no coming back.
