Charges upon moveout

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007

After living in this residence for 2 1/2 years I moved due to a job transfer. After paying out the lease (originally was going to be over $4,000, but they did take it down to about $2,000), about a month later I received a bill for almost $300 for various repairs which included a $150 charge for cleaning. I called to question this and was told the refrigerator and one of the bathtubs needed some additional cleaning. I had cleaned, swept, wiped everything down, upon my moveout, and asked them how they could get away with charging me for something they were going to do anyway. Obviously, the apartment would need to be cleaned after 2 1/2 years of someone living in it. I was told it had to be returned in the same shape as when I moved in. A little unrealistic after 2 1/2 years if you ask me. Also, I was charged for 4 door stoppers ($12) that I assume were never there when I moved in (why would I remove a door stopper'), a new screen for the bedroom window ($20), that was damaged when I had moved in, and a past due Gas bill that I had already paid. I was told that since these items were not listed on my move in checklist, I had to pay for them. I told them I never thought to look for door stoppers (who knew'), and it was winter when I moved in, so I really didn't think about opening the windows to check the screens. I was also charged for a floor vent ($6), that when I opened it to let the air flow out, the metal pieces on the inside fell out. I guess it's my fault they used cheap materials. The only time I ever made a service call (thermostat broken-it still functioned, but the thermometer part did not work) it took well over a month for them to replace it, and it still never functioned properly. I figured it wasn't worth waiting another month or so, so I just dealt with it. In response to a remark I made when I called them I was told there were no empty apartments, so they obviously made out well from my lease payout and had someone in the same place at most about a month later. I guess that wasn't enough though. It seemed like a nice place when I moved in, but as time went on it became increasingly noisy, mainly due to children. Someone put up a temporary basketball hoop at the end near where I lived (about 100 ft from my back porch), and literally kids were out there screaming from dawn to dusk. I called to complain, but nothing was done. If you are looking for a quiet area, this is not for you. I was very disappointed with the customer service I received in trying to resolve this issue.
