Cost is nice but nothing else

I lived here for just over five years. The only reason I didn't move out sooner was because the rent was so cheap. While I didn't have problems with the manager's for maintenance issues (because I had none), I do know a lot of tenants had issues with them. The biggest was they were very hard to find. They always seemed to be gone. Either they were out of town in Virginia or just not there. They also had a big double standard about parking. There are approximately 150 slots for 103 units. The manager's husband would go out and put notes on people's cars who may have been overnight guests saying the vehicle would be towed if found there again. Overnight guests need to park on the street. Yet, they themselves had 4 or 5 vehicles parked on the property. Their kids and grandkids would have their vehicles parked in slots overnight visiting them as well. They drive through the grass next to the office and park on the concrete slab. If a tenant did that, they would have had a major fit about it. Tenants weren't allowed to have motorcycles or guests visit them with a motorcycle supposedly for insurance purposes. That didn't stop their grandson from bringing his over during the summer of 2006 and also parking it on the concrete slab next to the pool behind the office. Speaking of the pool, it never opened on time (Memorial Day) weekend the entire time I lived there. They would always close it on the 4th of July saying it would be too hard to keep non tenants out. The manager's husband also wasn't always very tactful when it was time to close the pool each day. There were no emergency lights in the stairwells of the apartments for power outages. Also, tenants weren't allowed to have dogs or people visit them with dogs. Yet, the manager had one of those little dogs smaller than a cat. Overall, the cost is nice but the hassle of dealing with the manager's and their blatant double standards wasn't worth it anymore. When I found out that Centerville was doing rental property inspections, I was very happy because that meant some things that needed to be fixed might stand a chance of getting fixed.
